Hi guys. I've being trying to find out if the factory stat opens at 195 or 180 degrees. Because if it's 195 I want to change it to a 180 ASAP. Thanks

Your '99 should have came from GM with a 195., a 180 can be used yes.

Thanks. I can't stand watching the temp so high even while cruising on the highway.

It'll help at highway speeds and when your fan is on, but in town
when your fan is off(till it turns back on) she'll heat up.

My car stays right at half or one notch over half. Kinda freaked me out at first, because I was used to my Beretta being at 1/4 all the time.

As long as you're not going past 210 you should be fine.
I'd say stay with the stock 195.

I'd say stay with the stock 195. 210??? You will be fine as long as it doesnt run around 220 or so. Shoot in the 100 degree heat with 100% humidity mine with the 180 Tstat was running about 215-220 with a high speed fan switch on when I was in traffic.
FYI with the 180 I run about 190 on the highway and a notch about middle in normal city conditions.

Your engine will have slightly higher fuel efficiency and power at a higher teperature but on the otherhand, running cooller will extend the life of your engine....slightly :)

I live in PR and it get really hot during the summer. My car runs around 195 degrees on the highway and around 200-205 sitting in traffic. I'm used to my Trans Am with the 160 stat and low temp fan switch. It runs at 170 all day.

Yea I got a 50-50 mix in it. Everybody here has been having cooling problems with this heat wave. Of course once I started to get some air through it the temp went down to the normal 195.
Once I kick on the fans myself it will generally cool off. I think Ive only seen it that high a few times this month. Car runs and acts fine, just gets a lil warm sitting in stop and go traffic.

I run my coolant a little lean around -20, more water to coolant
seems to run cooler..

I was gonna post this question but sense you guys are talking somewhat about it i'll put it in here.
Whats the normal temp for a 99 SE cuz it scares me that it goes into the 200 range. Is one notch over 200 a normal temp for a GA or what?
Sorry if this was asked before.

The temperature gauge on the GA is about as accurate as the gas gauge. I have a ScanGauge and found the my dash gauge shows around ten degrees hotter than the actual temperature.
As long as it stays around the same place all the time, you're good.

Sorry if this was asked before. The 60 degree v6, which is what our 3400 is, family has always run a little hotter then other engines or at least that is what I have found. 200-215 is a rather normal range for a stock 3400.

Bit of an old thread, but the 2.3L and 2.4L engines, from 94 on, use 180 as stock. ACDelco part 131-123 (or 12T103D) is OEM.
The V6 engines use the 195 degree thermostats. ACDelco part 131-124 (and others)
