View Full Version : Feelin' kinda stoopid ...

I've been complaining that my GT didn't come with cupholders. I kept saying, Why do I always pick cars with no damn cupholders! (2nd-gen Firebirds, Jeeps, etc.).

But then today I received the owner's manual for my car, from some guy on eBay, for which I paid over $10. It mentions, of course, the little compartment just above the glovebox, which I didn't even know was there. Excitedly, I walk out to my car to find these mythical cupholders. I locate the button and the panel pops open. Well, alright! Cupholders! I felt kinda dumb. But then I felt dumber still, when in the compartment, right behind the cupholders, was the original OWNER'S MANUAL. :o

Not one of my better moments, so I thought I'd share. :-D Anyone need an owner's maual for a '95 GT?

In my defense, I should say I've barely driven the car since I bought it several weeks ago, as the original motor went to hell on me (as noted on a previous thread), so I haven't had much time to play with it. But still ... :loser: lol

LOL! That's funny. I think it's worth whatever you paid for the owner's manual to have a story like that. Anyway, those cupholders are badass. As long as something fits in them, it will never tump, honest! Also, the ashtray is a cupholder as well. And if you have canned drinks, the space at the very bottom of the door, up towards the front of the car is made to hold cans. The backseat people each have a cupholder built into the side of the car. So, in essence, there's more cupholders in these cars than you can shake a stick at. :D

That is actually very funny. I didn't know that bin existed either, until my wife flipped it down shortly after I had bought the car. I had my manual, but I hadn't looked at it yet (I'm a computer guy, the last thing we do is read manuals!).

The cup-holders won't tip, but they will launch over bumps, so make sure anything you put there has a cover on it. I don't like 'em.

Now where are the cup-holders for the rear seat people?

You wanna talk lack of stuff, 3rd gen Camaros take the cake. No cup holders, no door pouches, no glove box. At least some Firebirds got the dash pouch and door cup holders.

But on the other hand, I dont see myself cruizin in the IROC, sippin a frappucino. That's why Mountain Dew bottles have caps.

That is a great story!! I had no users manual, but now I have two as well.. found one at the wreckers, and my dad got me an even better one from a car swapmeet...

As for the rear cup holders, I'm positive 95's for sure don't have them..???

Two door '95's have rear cup holders. I, having a four door, was terribly envious the first time I saw them!

Well, that explains that. I have a 4 door 95. Of course, I could always bore out holes in the seat backs, then when a rear passenger folds down the other seatback, voila! Cup-holder!

Methinks, however, cars with "We're gonna DIE!" grabs over the doors shouldn't really have cup holders, should they? :D

Hehehe .. I'm glad ya'll got as good a laugh out of it as I did :D

I practically live in my car on school days, so lunch on the go is a daily routine. I need those damn cupholders! lol Most oversized cups rom the fast-food chains wouldn't fit in the ashtray or the doors - besides, even if they were small enough to fit, I still wouldn't stick drinks in the door panels as then they would block the speaks, and that's a big no-no :nono:

I'll keep you guys posted on any more GA-n00b things I do, haha.

You may have igured this one out already but it took me loosing a gas cap and buying a new one before a friend of mine informed me :)

On the gas cap door, there are little arms there that you can sit the cap in!! Beats the heck out of letting it roll around on your trunk or maybe forgetting it at the pump!

Your rear seats fold down??? If they do how did you get them to do that, I didnt think they folded down in the 94's

yeah I kinda figured that out on my own. and actually the only way i found out about the cupholders was going online, i forget where, but i read an electronic version of the owners manual. Like a few other people on here i was shocked when i found out there was a compartment there especially with cupholders... haha

Well, I am the second owner of my car so I didn't get to pick options.

The fold down seats, grabs, etc. where probably part of certain packages.

Come to think of it.... Mine has manual mirrors and seat adjusts but I think the other V6 I spoke of had power ones!

Oh, I need to stop before I blow a blood vessel.....

THis is a tread I can releate to. I have a 95 GAGT. And I did't even know about the compartment above the glove box until about a month after I got the car. I was detailing it, and I saw the spot on top of the dash where the button is to open the compartment, and thats how i found it. I was a exciting moment, cause I hated the fact that there were no cup holders. And the cup holders are great, never had anything spill.

I think some of these 'missing' items in some of your cars may be because you don't have GTs, which came with many of them as standard equipment (not sure about the fold-down rear seats - I think they were an across the board option).

In 1995, as far as I know, the GT had upgraded cloth seats (I have leather), sun visor extenders and a driver side lumbar support as exclusive equipment. I have full instrumentation, but I believe that was optional on SEs as well.

I have a hard time knowing exactly what I have in my GT and not available on SEs as mine was used when I bought it, plus it is loaded and from what I can tell I am not missing ANY options. I'm going by the owners manual for this info. Maybe somebody out there has the definitive list of equipment and its availability.

Who knows, maybe there is yet another secret compartment out there we can all feel 'stoopid' about!

my dad calls those grab handels "oh $hit handels" (becuase when your gonna crash, you grab them and yell oh $hit)

can someone take a picture of the area witht he cub holders, both closed and then open? I have a '91 so it's differnt on my car, but I am interested to see what they look like (also the cub holders on the door)

That's a great story! Funniest thing I've heard all day! I definitely owned my car for a few months before I knew about that too. As far as owners manuals, I have an electronic one for all 94's. It's long because it has every option for either GT or SE, but if anyone wants a copy, give me a PM. I imagine it's about the same for 92-95.

:funny: Good times!!!

I had a similar deal with my car... when I bought it I found this rusty socket-looking thing in my car, didn't know what it was, threw it away... Went in for an oil change, guys said they couldn't check my rear brakes cuz i have wheel locks... So, I was like "Shit I threw away the socket too..." so then I went to a gas station and had them take em off for $15. Then, a few weeks later I'm cleaning out my spare tire compartment (lotsa random shit in there) and I find *you guessed it* the socket for my wheel locks. Turns out I was mistaken and the first thing I threw away wasn't for the wheel locks at all

Hey don't feel bad. I've had my car since August or 2000, and last month my husband just figured out I had those cup holders. I never read the owners manual so I had no idea it was up there. Guess I can relate.

I have a 90 GA so I thought I had the compartment too. I looked above the glovebox but it was flush, no handle. So I got a screw driver and tried to pry it open. I ended up popping the trim piece off because the compartment isn't on my car.
