Hi all,

My wife has a 2001 Grand AM GT. I am trying to replace the rear struts, but 2 out of 3 mounting nuts have a disc shaped nut with 3 holes in it. I cannot find a special tool online or at local parts stores. Does anyone know how to remove them? Where do you get the socket / wrench? I tried vice grips but they don't seem to work.

Thanks.

You take 2 of the nuts off from inside the trunk, the other from below.. is that what you are doing?

Iceman,

You just made me realize how to remove it. There are 2 bolts that I need to get to from underneath (in the wheel well). Then there is 1 nut that I need to remove from the trunk.

I have never seen this setup before on any other vehicle.

Thanks for the insight.

Oops, that's what I meant.. my mistake..

Glad you figured it out.. If you look from the top it looks like a nut but look closer (or at the replacement) you'll see they are just bosses tacked on.

Just FYI, those things in the back aren't struts, they're shocks.

A strut has the shock and spring integrated into one unit, like on the front of the car.

They all have 99+ GA's so the back DOES have struts.
