View Full Version : Twinkling lights on '95 GT

Since I bought this car almost two months ago, I've observed all the lights - headlamps, fogs, interior and dash lights - twinkling for a while, while the volt gauge needle rocks slightly but steadily, from side to side.

They don't twinkle all the time, and when they do it's only for a while. No amount of revving or driving makes it go away, it seems to have no rhyme or reason. It can do it for most of a night or for only a little while.

I suspected the alternator, but everything else is working just fine. The windows go up at a good pace, the radio doesn't crackle, and the battery is always charged.

What should I look for? Is there a relay or a plug that could be coming loose? Where to start?

TIA for any help.

Have you had an AVR test (Alternator, Voltage Regulator) performed? It's possible that the alternator is doing it's job fine enough, but the voltage regulator could be going bad. Unfortunately, the VR is integrated into the alternator, so if it is bad, you'll either have to get the existing one rebuilt, or purchase a new alternator.

Thanks, Jason. I need to swing by my old mechanic's shop this week anyway, I'll see if he can test it out for me.
