Any word on the new Solstice. Talk of the town was that a coupe model was to be unveiled but since then I've seen nada. I'm guessing the coupe will look something like the prototype we used to see, hopefully with a little spice added (aftermarket spice will do if need be).
Any news? Any links I've missed?
It's the new Fiero. I can't afford one, but I want one. If a coupe comes out I'll save up for one and sell a kidney or two.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Solstice a front-engine car like the majority of other cars? If so, then I wouldn't consider it a successor to the Fiero at all. I'm not so sure I like the styling of the prototype coupe, but it'll probly grow on me the more I see it.

I'm sure that there is a Solstice forum. They should have all the latest poop.

Ummm the Solstice isnt changing at all. Its been out for over a year.
Check out Pontiac's site. They have plenty of info on it.

I consider the Solstice a Fiero successor because it's the next sporty two seater from GM. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a GM mid engine car, unless they go crazy with the next Vette that is (dear god wouldn't that be sweet).
I guess I'll look for a Solstice forum. I didn't want to get into all that though. The Wikipedia had a snippet about it but that site is hit or miss. I found a quote from Lutz saying that he wanted to do it to revitalize the car, but he was vague etc.. I guess it's really wait until next year and see.
Darn, now I want a Fiero again. I get Fiero urges every few months for the past 5 years.

Marshall the Solstice/Sky is here to stay. Its a pretty new car and I seriously doubt that GM will update it next year and I havent heard anything in auto news about it.
Also its not the "next" two seater from the GM. Its been on sale for a good while.

I meant next as in next after the Fiero.

Ohhh gotcha.
They are fairly cheap for what you get in them. I like the Sky a little better though. It has more aggressive lines and the rear looks far better.

Is this a reliable source? It's vague still though http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/31/solstice-coupe-due-in-2008-torrent-dead-rwd-g5-under-developme/
As far as the Fiero, it's starting to look like I've missed my chance. The prices on them have skyrocketed in the past few years thanks to people having larger markets online. I've been looking for an automatic in my area for a while and when the price is good I either don't have the money or something falls through. One day I may come across one in someone's front yard but that seems less and less likely everyday now.
Sorry for loosing the scope of the thread there, I ramble on sometimes.

No that is totally cool. I didnt know you were talking about a HARDTOP!!! LOL
Yea I read that a few weeks ago I think. Nothing too new really. Im kinda interested on how they plan on adding boost but oh well. I figured it was only time before they added a hardtop to it.

From what I saw, there is one article/interview that hints at a coupe version. This has been regurgitated from magazine to magazine, in an endless vauge quotation circle. It's turning into the gossip game... where the kids sit in a circle and the message "Tom has three apples" turns into "I have to poop real bad" by the 20th kid or so.

I'm confused as to what "hard top" means. As a child I was taught that a HT is a car that "looks like a convertible but isn't". I never understood that because it either is or it isn't, how can it look one way but be the other? Then hard top became known as a convertible with a hard removable top, like some Jeeps and such.
My understanding is that they are making a car like the prototype that is non-convertible. I hope they do anyway.
Why aren't they making mid-engine cars anyway? There must be a reason that 90 percent if not more of all street cars are front engine but what is it? Someone told me that mid-engine is harder to drive but I don't see why the engine being in the middle would make a difference. Something about understeer and reverse fishtails if I recall correctly.

That is a hardtop. Its a SOLID rigid top that is one piece. Your GA is also a hardtop. There can also be hardtop verts like the G6.
The only thing that I dont like is the dual stacked exhaust. That is ghey as hell.
The reason nobody makes a mid engine is well nobody will buy them really. Itll be a niche car at best and well GM is really about taking chances. lol

Id buy the Solstice GXP or Saturn Skye Redline before that hard top/coupe version

josh kinda hit it, a mid engine car is a niche car, and while its not that Gm wont take chances, they wont spend the money on a niche car that wont get them publicity. they are spending the money on the ZR1 corvette because it will bring in customers for other cars. an affordable mid engine car wont get much positive attention for them, so no remake of the fiero.
what about this solstice?

I'm pretty sure his compairison to the Fiero is mostly due to it's 2 seater sports cars cult like following.
I made mention of it being "the next Fiero" when they showed concepts of it years ago and sure enough it's looking to be going that way.

Actually Dave the article I read said the concept is pretty much what they want to make. He (Lutz I think) wanted both at launch but couldn't justify the risk. I'm curious as to how the rear works on it. Does it hatchback or not? I don't see a line. Would GM release it without a rear opening? I hope they do, but I suspect that you may be right and by the time it gets made it won't be as hot as it is now.
As for the two you posted, the wagon I don't like. The gold one is okay. I'm torn between it and the prototype. We need a poll to see which is the best.
Why isn't the Vette mid engine?
TA^Guy

Because the Vette is almost perfectly balanced with a front engine, rear transaxle. Why ruin it with a understeering mid engine setup?

I know this is a Solstice, but it looks like the Nomad concept that I have a picture of on my wall at home. I'll take a pic when I get home...or I'll look for one online.

And I'll say this...I really like the Nomad...and it's vintage Corvette-esque grille.
