I saw this on ebay and read through it just to see what they had to say. Has anyone ever used this or know if it actually saves on gas mileage? Let me know what you think...

In other words: It doesn't do anything for mileage, it's a scam.

Thanks for the example... going to add that to the scam guide.
Edit: Done, thanks. Here...

Thats easy, just keep your vehicle properly maintained and dont drive like an a-hole.

driving stupid is definitely not me, i baby it and there isnt a lot of miles so i shouldnt need to replace anything yet. i feel like my gas mileage is getting progressively worse though even though i am less and less aggressive with my driving... mechanics cant come up with any solutions for it either.

get a decent air filter, use synthetic oil, keep your tires inflated to what the manufacturer recommends (not what the tire says, but what the inside fo your drivers door says) and use the recommended octane gas. A higher octane gas wont get you better mileage, your engine is designed to burn gas at a certain temp, if you run different octane gas then you wont burn it efficiently.

well i just replaced the air filter a few weeks ago, i always check the tire pressure and have them at 32lbs but i have never looked at what the inside of the drivers door says. i always use 87 octane gas which i believe is the recommended. maybe i should start getting synthetic oil but i hear it isnt worth it from a lot of people. not sure what other options i have though...

Who the hell told you that its not worth it?
Stop talking to them

haha ok ok... next time i will invest in it and see if that makes a difference. i wish i could have you do what you do to paint on my car coupe, based on the pictures you have posted... i need to find the time to do some detailing sometime soon before winter strikes again

Synthetic is more efficient.
Anyways, when it comes to things, try changing your plugs and O2 sensor if you havn't done so for a while.

if you want to help, not necessarily mileage but possibly longevity, slap those magnets on your oil filter. less metal particals floatin around the better.

Eh, those are not as good as using the actual oil filter magnet kits.
The turbo magnet would be better used as a refridgerator magnet.

true, the "ionizing magnetic waves" may actually actually screw up your oil some how lol

When was the last time you changed the fuel filter? Also pull the plugs just to check there condition. I stand behind synthetic oil, you may not notice a difference when you first switch over as it may take a couple before it works its way through the system.
If everything has been changed and your MPG is still dropping, just for laughs, check the temp of the wheels after a drive with the back of your hand. If one seems warmer that the rest you may have a sticky brake caliper or a bearing going bad.
Just a couple of ideas for ya.

well i only have 26k miles on it for starters so things shouldnt be going wrong yet even though stuff already has... at what point do i know when to change the fuel filter/plugs/o2 sensor? thanks for the ideas, i will check out temps on the tires and see how that goes. i just remembered this morning that early this summer is when i got 5 spoke 16 gt stock rims opposed to the 15 se stock ones that had newer tires on them but i dont necessarily remember when the mpg started dropping, i noticed going into winter last year but i figured that was cause of gas changes for winter and cold in general. thoughts?

not sure about the 02 sensor, but do the plugs + fuel filter. i do the filter once a year, but i put about 26K miles on mine a year, lol. GM's 100K miles plugs may work til 100K miles, but not well. I swapped them out of my ecotec around 20K. Also, search on here for Seafoam, works wonders....

Now that you mentioned the larger wheels, it might be that you have a larger rotating mass, I.E. your 15" rim and tire combination might equal 18" and your new 16" rim and tire might equal 20"
2" may not seem like much but it could be enough to give you a drop in MPG not to mention it will screw up your odometer.
You can check everything else that we have said but I'd say if you have your old rims and tires try putting them back on and see if your MPG goes back up. That won't cost you any money.

heres how i did my maintenance:
O2 sensors: every 100k miles
spark plugs: every 60k miles
spark plug wires: every 60k
fuel filter: every 60k
tranny fluid: every 60k
coolant flush: every 60k
then most other stuff as needed. I would have an OBDII reader hooked up just to see if youre throwing any codes, but with 28k miles, you should be getting the highest mileage possible on that car, as long as its been maintained.

thats what i was thinking it could be too but i was told the outside dimensions were the same size and shouldnt cause any problems with the odometer and mileage but who knows, i didnt do in depth digging on it either.

yeah i didnt think i would have to replace all that stuff already. once i get into the 50k range i will start looking at it more indepth, i dont want to spend all kinds of money on stuff that will save me a dollar here and there. i think ill do the seafoam idea a few times with synthetic oil and see how that works out. thanks everyone for giving suggestions

Feel like?
Do some actual gas mileage calculations to see if it actually is getting worse or you're just imagining it.

I calculate it every time i fill up, sorry i guess i used the wrong words to describe it... the gas mileage is getting progressively worse

OK, so what are you getting for mileage?

well last summer i was getting 24-27 constantly and i havent seen anything over 24 since then and its usually 20-21. its not like its terrible but that makes quite a difference over time ya know.

When you were getting 27 mpg, was that in city or highway?
You've got a V6 and I've got the L4. I get 21-24 in city and 29-30 highway. 20-21 mpg in city sounds pretty decent for your engine.
03GAmSE
09-14-2007, 09:03 AM
well it was like 27 highway and 24 city and now its just about 20-21 no matter what i do it seems like all though i do a little less highway driving now to determine what the potential is. maybe what i am getting now is normal and what i got last summer was lucky i guess. it does stink having a bigger engine as far as gas but its worth it when you need to pass someone. i knew it wasnt that bad but i thought id bring it up on here just to see if anyone had any suggestions.

That is getting kinda low. I really can't offer anything, except to echo the statements above. Air pressure, alignment, and regular maintenance such as air filter, fuel filter, PCV valve, spark plugs, etc. The plugs in these cars will not last the 100,000 they're rated to before performance and mileage start to deteriorate. When I changed the plugs in my '99 at 60,000 miles, they were quite worn. The car will try to compensate for the poor spark, however performance and mileage suffer.

I agree.
Synthetics reduce friction, are more stable under higher tempatures, and last longer than standard lubricants.
If I were you I would look into Amsoil (http://www.amsoil.com). I run it in all my vehicle including my motorcycle that turns to the tune of 12,500rpms. In my cars/trucks I don't change the oil for 25,000 miles. I only change the filter every 12,000 miles or so.
If you are interested send me a PM and I can hook you up with the guy I get mine from who will have it drop shipped right to your door. He also supported this years GAOC Albany Meet, so it's always nice to support those that support enthusiasts.
