So, my speedometer started acting up a couple days ago. Spastically jumping around, sitting at 0 while I'm doing at least 40, then acting pretty normal, then just jumping around between 0 and whatever speed I happen to be traveling. I've narrowed it down to the VSS or the cable connected to it by searching through this forum, but even after that and looking through my Haynes, I don't really know where to look for it on my car. I know it's on the transmission *somewhere*, but if someone could post/link me to a picture or something, that would be great.

My car expertise is somewhat limited, as in, I didn't have a clue about anything until this summer when I bought this car and proceeded to replace the head gaskets myself.

Recap: 1995 Grand Am SE Coupe 3100 v6, looking for VSS location.

here is what it looks like.

Its located on the passenger side of the car, within inches of where the CV halfshaft goes into the tranny.

if the side of the tranny were a clock, it would be at about 11:00.

the vss is connected to the cruise control module and ECM.

Also check your PCM connections. Removing/reinserting them on my car actually corrected the same symptoms.
