As you may remember I am thinking of buying this '94 Coupe with 4cyl/auto. Last night we started to work on it and remove the heater core. That's a 'cute' place for it, by the way! We wanted to make it easier to get at by removing the shift knob. We could not figure out how to remove it. Any ideas? We did get the heater core out, but did end up breaking the cover. I think it'll be alright.

to remove the shift knob on my 95 when i had to replace the heatercore was pretty easy. First to remove the shift knob there is a little clip that looks sort of like a staple but bigger and thicker. It is located on the front of the knob below the shift button. You have to take a screwdriver and pop it out kind of like if you were pulling a staple of out paper.

I probably should have mentioned that we tried that. Actually we tried to pound it back in not really sure which way it should go. We may still try to take it off so as to clean under the console. Ahhhh.......teenage girls and glitter..........

IT should be that clip as mentioned (Unless you had the less common T handle).

The clip is easy, but getting the knob to come off is another. If the knob was never removed previously, it's probably tight on the shaft and just not wanting to come out. You're probably going to have to pull up pretty damn hard to get it to slide off. (Make sure you wear a cup or some sort of protection where your hands and knob may end up hitting). I had to pull extremely hard for it to finally come off.
