Actually started back in the early 60s with SCCA racing. In fact it was Zora Arkus-Duntov's #003 Corvette GS (SCCA car #2) that wore a white racing stripe on blue paint with red hashmarks. In 1996 GM released a special edition Corvette GS with the same paint sceme of their legendary C2.

I have issues with search engines, they never direct me to the right site (spyware or virus or something) so I can't look up any historic information for you. IIRC they stripes resembled historic racing from back in the day when they would use leathe belts over the fenders to hold lightweight hoods closed.

Sad but automotive history (mostly GM) is something I've always been intrigued by.

I wouldn't do it but I tihnk it looks great on Tom's GA and the OP's. I wouldn't know which car is Tom's if he didn't have the stripes.

Looks like I'll be the lone black sheep.... I don't like the stripes. Reminds me of a U.S. Coast Guard vessel; they have similar slanted stripes on the bow.

Looks awesome! I attempted to install similar overlays on my car tonight, only in red. The only one successful was the trunk. :(

Tyson - aww, im sorry man. just remember to clean the car very good beforehand and to take your time, both applying the vinyl with either a squeegee or credit card, air bubbles = ENEMY! BAH! =) then also be careful pulling back the clear see through covering. If you have trouble positioning the vinyl or afraid of messing up the 1st time, get a squirt bottle with bout 2 drops of dish soap in it and apply before lyin down the vinyl. this gives you time to move it around and center it how you want it. then get your squeegee & get rid of all the water. i personally like to install it dry, but i trust myself layin it the first time

I think I can do it right next time, just with a little more preparation and patience. They aren't too expensive anyway. At least I got the trunk one on.:D

yea they can be very tricky. i installed a rear eyebrow before, and it went on perfectly. however, i was impatient takin off the see-thru covering and happened to get a lot of air bubbles. instead of takin out a pin and just pokin the air bubbles flat (there were over 100) i just said f@*k it..and ripped it off. so now im goin to reorder it. they aren't too expensive, bout 20$

Atlas, I don't know man, I know most people place them them the way I have it, but I did it that way because I think it flows with the lines and design of the car better...why don't you try it out backwards and let us know what you think? ;)
