Hey guys how is it going? Well I am looking for a new car, earlyer this week I got in a bad car wreck and the cavalier may be totaled. The quarter panels, windshield, bumper and bumper coever are gone, as well both air bags were deployed, plus leaking tranny fluid. The wreck wasn't my fauld thank God. My insurance agent looked at the pics and said 95% it is gone. But I am wanting to buy a Grand Am GT. Been wanting one for quite some time so this may be my chance to get one. I plan on staying away from 99-2001 models. But wanting a 02-04 model. When buying one is there anything I need to worry about the car. Like common problems with them, ect. And is the 3400 engine real good as well. I have done my research on here as well. Your input is welcome

Thanks
Clint

I am new to the grand am but after doing tons of research with the tons of problems that I have, there are a few common ones that I know of. First the Hubs have a few problems the Wheel Speed Sensor goes out or doesnt have a good connection. its part of the hub so to get it fixed you have to replace the hub which is about $500 to $600 dollars for both front hubs.(Seems the fronts have more problems than the back.) The head light retaining ring is also a pretty common problem. the tabs break off and the head light can just fall out. They are $7-$15 dollars to fix. The fuel pump is also another problem spot, sometimes they go out sometimes the gas gauge will act funny... just lots of problems. The revers light will sometimes get full of water... there are a few other common problems.. with the GT body style the front bumper cover can break pretty easy. I dont know price to have it fixed but you can pick up a new bumper cover for around $150 dollars from a junk yard. The blower motor resistor, you loose both 1 and 2 blower settings. Its about $20 dollars for the part and a pretty easy fix. All and all its no different than most cars. If you do get one, stick to lower miles and keep upto date with all of your maint. and it should make you a good car.

Greeneye, how many miles did you have? The only problem I've had so far was replacing my back bumber, because it had a crack in it which with time would have snapped it in half.
