So i finally got me system in, but i was hoping it would sound a little better. Any help would be great..

2- 12" Kicker Comp. VR
q-logic band pass box
225 orion amp
cap.
Alpine 9807 cd deck

I think i need a bigger amp, but i don't know if i can put a bigger amp on since they are in the band pass box. Then i think its the box itself restricting the bass, but if i get a regular box will i have to get a bigger amp? I'm very new to the stereo thing so any help would be very helpfull............. Thanks!

And i don't think the cap works too well my inside light still dims, but i actually have not hooked up the amp by itself yet.

This was my first install ,it was fun, but i'm really beat from crawling in and out of the trunk. I had only 3 hours to do it before work.

Kicker Comp VR's don't work well in Bandpass boxes. That could be the reason why you're not getting the output you'd like and think you need a bigger amp.

I say install the subs into a sealed enclosure for which they are designed. Check your manual or the website for the proper size of sealed enclosure and you might be surprised about the improved sound.

Regarding the cap, double check that you hooked up the wires correctly.

You need more power. Caps don't really do much. They claim to boost your power, but it doesn't work that way. The cap keeps the power that is already there steadier. Get it? A second battery coupled to an isolator works, or a bigger alternator.

Capcitors do not boost your power, nor do they claim to.

Caps are useful because it's a great source of power for those deep bass notes and it is relatively close to the amplifier. Also caps can discharge very fast for the quick bass notes as well.

With a cap installed, when the bass notes hit, the powere needed doesn't have to be drawn from the battery which is far away and discharges much slower than a cap, and that current draw from the battery is what causes lights to dim.

A second battery will not help with bass notes nor will it "boost" your power. A second battery is useful only for running your stereo for extended periods with the engine not running for the extra reserve capacity.

Let's go for a ride, buddy. Two fosgate 1500's. One Optima, isolator. No headlight dimming. None.
Is that my ass? No, it's just a hole in the ground.

What does that last statement mean anyways?

My headlights don't dim either and I don't have a cap or second battery. Why? Because my amp has a row of six 100 microfarad caps built in.

Sealed for better sound, vented to be louder but less accurate. Anything except bandpass will do for the Comp VR's.

do you think my orion 225 HCCA comp amp. will work fine for those?

Well i finally got it all hooked up!!!!! And damn does that system slam. I put the kickers in a sealed box with 1.25 cf space.. My orion 225 sure does put enough power to those subs.. I'm so glad i got it all figured out. Thanks all, for your help... The only thing that i did that sucks is when i was putting the screws around the speaker i slipped and put a hole in the outside ring. It is small and you can't here it, but i'm sure it will eventually get bigger, i was so mad at myself but what can i do now.....

You can patch it up with some epoxy glue or other stuff. If its not very big I'm sure it wont affect it to much, but if your worried you should try to patch it, just to make sure it doesnt get any bigger. Go to www.termpro.com and post on the general forum on what to use, I've been told what was the best but I forgot.

hehe thanks.

ok here we go;
1) if youre using a bandpass box, it needs to be built EXACTLY to the specs of the speaker manufacturer, otherwise you wont get very good results. youl get better sound with a sealed box, and even a ported box. those subs sound loudest in a ported box but make sure the box is built to specs.

2) thats a high current amp with a lot of power. no need to change it, just make suire its wired up right. check thge gauge of the power wire, and make sure your overall ohm load isnt 8, it should be 2 if you want to get a lot of power fromt hat amp.

3) capacitors dont create power. all they do is help keep the voltage in the car constant. it wont keep your lights from dimming. It wont extend the life of your alternator or battery either. it keeps the power going to your subs. thats all.
