The paintjob on my car got owned today by a "reputable" car wash that I had trusted for some time. I came home from the car wash and noticed white speckles on my hood. I looked closer, and it turned out these were scratches that either went down to the primer or the metal itself, like there were rocks in the fabric they used. I was pretty angry to say the least... I'm doing nothing but touchless or handwashing from now on.

Either way, I was considering getting the car repainted next summer because I already have a few deep scratches, and several scratches in the clearcoat all over. Its been this way since I bought the car.

How much does a paintjob cost? I want to keep it the same color, and get the underbody painted/sprayed with something to protect it from salt in winter.

Depends on many variables such as paint color, paint quality/brand, who does the paint, and if you get the jambs and engine bay touched up. If any body work/prepping needs to be done I'd recommend you do that yourself if you have any experience, as it saves you some money.

For a good thorough paint job, expect to pay several thousand at least.

No, Maaco is not a good thorough paint job... they don't do jack for prep work...

I was expecting to pay somewhere between $2000-3000 for a full paintjob... I'd like to check out a few local independent shops. I'd be going with the same color, so painting the inside of the doors shouldn't be necessary. It would be cool to have those black side mirrors match the body color though...

Dunno why people insist on using those damn carwashes.

Wash it yourself, your more than capable.

I never had a car worth washing before... they were all so rusty.
