Hi guys,
I was just wondering if it would be a good thing to put a cover on my car, for the winter (I'm storing it outside for 5 months). That would be good against the snow and sun exposure I guess, but is there any cons when it comes to moisture trapped underneath it ? If it's all good, would a cheap cover work ?

Thanks in advance,
J-S

I wanted to know about this too cuz I have my car parked outside all the time and I was debating weather or not to put a cover on cuz I hear it will scratch the paint and collect moisture. So is a cover worth it? It don't bother me that I clean my car every week.

not worth it, The chipmunks will use it to make a happy little home under.

IN doing so, they'll stuff your car full of nuts, insulation...etc, not to mention scratch the **** out of it and shit everywhere.

That, and what comes to mind is like a bra on your car. It would be a place for dirt to collect and chafe on your car.

I wouldn't bother, are you going to be running it at least?
I mean my cars have always been outside, but they are also my DD so I was always using them.

Ok i have a bit of answers for everyone on this.
My buddy bought 1 for his car a about a year ago. Now he parked it outside his house for the winter months. when winter was over and no snow was on the ground he uncovered it. now some of the cover stayed wet and sum dryed. after he took it off he noticed some rust spots that where not there before he put it on. So if you are gona buy a cover make sure you have a garage to use with it. to me i'd just let it stay with out a cover for the winter months cause the cover is gona be wet and hold all kina moister just my 2 cents to let everyone know.

Actually, no, I wasn't planning on running it. It's my summer car, and I'm "storing" it right now. But I'll run it maybe once a month, just to keep it from seizing in place. And yeah bras are a bit dumb, they protect paint....that you don't even see ! So what's the point.

Sorry about your friend's ride, it will help save mine though... ;)

Thanks everybody, :D

don't cheap out on the cover. alot of them will let the moisture in that are cheaper, which you don't want. drop the good $80 or more on one that is waterproof, yet lets the car "breathe". i went through 2 with my trans am with no issues until i left it uncovered the last couple of months. but, also, wax it before you cover it, and be prepared to vacuum nut shells out from your engine bay come spring.

Another thing to keep in mind.. Happened to my friend.

When the snow melts and it freezes, it can even possibily freeze on your car. lol. That wasn't a happy day.

Ok ! Plans have changed ! I'll be using the GA as a daily driver this winter, hopefully not too often. I just bought a 1985 BMW so I'm selling my old winter beater Malibu.

I guess I wouldn't need a cover after all.

Thanks anyway !

I have a related question.

I too am looking to buy a car cover for my Grand Am 99 v6 LE and I want to know what is best to get.

Pontiac dealership told me to look into Techlon. I've been doing homework on the 'net and realized any cover above $100 seem best; they list supposed protection from rain, snow, rust, sun, molds, dust, and are "breathable".

I have one garage but 2-car-wide driveway. During snow/ice days, want to keep brand new Subaru in garage and GrandAm in driveway, this way don't have to shovel out car on work days. But want to keep GrandAm supple and use it on weekends.

Live and work in NYC/LI area where winters can be bad but not as bad as some places.

Any suggestions/advice? Should I bother getting cover? Which kind of cover?
