Sooo... I did it... I traded in the GA (with a blown head gasket & LIM) and got a 2000 Mercury Cougar V6 MTX. I've been hunting this car for the past month... kept getting salesmen that didn't want to sell it to me, finally saw them lower the price again, and now she's mine :)

I haven't gotten to take pics of her yet, but here's a few that were on the dealer's website.

I'm glad I was able to go from a black coupe with a sunroof... to a black coupe with a sunroof  - with lower miles.

Congrats on the new(to you) car. I bet it is pretty fun to drive.

Nice find on the manual trans... manual FTW.

Beware the "Ford-ness" of the Duratec 2.5L... my mom's 98 Mystique and my friend's 99 Cougar were far from problem-free. (4 oxygen sensors that never live past 60K miles FTL)

P.S. I spy Sunburst Spec V. :D

Wow, congrats! I've always thought Cougar's were badass! Be good to it and it'll be good to you :)

i had a friend with one of those. i think you can use parts from the contour SVT on the motor to wake it up a bit.

Yep, you can :D I guess you can even swap the 3.0L engine over, too (of course, with a lot of work)

Jaimerz

Oh I'm really loving her... I wouldn't have bought the auto, or the 4 cyl. or any other color other than black or silver  Guess the sunroof on these things suck and break easily. Good thing I live where it rains all the time then, huh?

yea, the sunroof or whatever you want to call it does break easily, my sister in law has a cougar and hers froze while it was open and when she took it to the shop they had to force it back down into the car, it will open fine, but will then have to be forced back down, they said it was a wire from the switch to the roof i do believe, and it would be outrageously expensive to fix it, so good luck, also watch out for your actuators for your hatch, those can go bad quick too,

X2.
Yesterday at work I dealt with the "Ford-Ness" monster , I had to remove a kick plate under the steering column of a Mercury Mountaineer to get to a customers fuse box.

Which was reversed under the steering column.

Really cool cars, those Cougars ,just be careful about the quality.

Not sure, but lots of people (with the money) have dropped the 3.0L contour SVT engine in with little modifications :) I don't have the money for that though.

I have since replaced the CD player with a better JVC unit.

Not to sound like an ass, but your headunit says 'Pioneer' on it,not JVC. Care to explain lol?

Slick mods so far. But I like the one in the picture that has 1-2-3-4-5-R written on it :)

Jaimerz
06-23-2008, 08:25 AM
I know it's Pioneer... I replaced it with a better unit, not one of equal quality, in a different brand (JVC). Should have included a comma between better and JVC

I should take a new pic with the new unit in, it looks a LOT better.

Your reading comprehension = fail.

Not true. I didn't see the caption in the first place. Thus reading comprehension was not the problem.

My reading before posting=fail.

Fixed for accuracy.Carry on. :D

Exactly what I'm thinking. I'm planning on debadging it soon, however for the mods that cost money, I'll have to convince my boyfriend that I need them :)
