i just got rid of my 95 grand am and was looking at a grand prix until i saw how much rust was on the rocker panels. I kept looking and i found a 2001 Dodge Stratus Es for 2,500 dollars. So i had my mechanic check it out and there was nothing wrong other than the blower motor resistor which he replaced before i bought it. This is the car
2001 Dodge Stratus Es
2.7L V6
95,300 miles
p/w
p/l
p/seats
p/mirrors
p/steering
ABS
tilt
cruise
Keyless entry
Its a really nice car with just a small patch of rust over the front fender where someone bumped into it. Its really small though.
I know dodge trannys are crap but as long as i dont beat it im sure i could get a few more years out of it. he just replaced all the tires, cv joint, blower resistor.
I think i got a decent deal out of it. Also i wasnt looking for a sports car i wanted a Sedan to carry people around in.
What does everyone think??

if you like it, thats all that matters, but personally, I will never own another Chrysler product... talk to any tow truck driver (at lease the 3 or 4 I have asked anyway) and the brand they pick up the most out of everything is Chrysler.... I owned a Dodge at one point... Tranny went, around 1500 bucks to repair, and 2 years later it was starting to go again (no, I didnt beat on it) so I sold it and said never again.

Chrysler and their glass trannies FTMFL....
(Yes, I have experience)
But as long as you enjoy the car, congrats on your purchase.
$2500 isn't bad for just a hauling vehicle.
Picked my GA up for $2000

be VERY careful of those 2.7L engines.Google '2.7L oil starvation' and youll see in detail what I mean, but the short version is, the 2.7 V6 sludges oil easily , so after 60K miles there's a good possibility of the the engine locking up from oil starvation. Repair costs can be $5000+ for a new engine.
Other than that , my friend drives a Chrylser Sebring sedan with the same trim as your car and hes quite happy with it.Watch the oil like a hawk ,and you should be in good shape. Personally, im not comfortable driving a car that could blow an engine with little warning, but you could have a very well maintained model, so just watch for that issue.

Is that the one where you have to pull the tire off to get to the battery?

I think so, yeah.
Two of my family members each own one, and they both have nothing bot bad luck with them. All various issues, from transmission trouble to brake and suspension problems. They aren't exactly well-known for reliability. :(

Oh. In that case, I'm sorry.

I can't vouch for their reliability, but over the summer I drove a Stratus and a Sebring (both later model sedans, 2003-ish). They drove out very nicely and looked good.
But I have heard bad stories about Chrysler's cars lately. :/
Then again, before I got my car all I heard about GAs was bad stories. So, you never know. I think a lot of it has to do with how the car was/is taken care of. :)

I had a 91 Spirit ES that was black. It was a cool car and fun to drive. But it was a mechanical nightmare. I was on my 3rd tranny at 88,000. Then it started burning oil and smoking. I dumped it and bought my 1st Grand AM.:D

Sounds like a good deal to me. Just somewhat baby it and you should be good. :)

Yeah, definately watch out. My God daughter's father had an 02 stratus and it's shot a little after 60,000 miles.. He didn't beat on it, it ended up being a victim of that oil sludge thing..

I had a 98 Stratus that was recently stolen. Had over 140,xxx miles on it. It was the 2.4 liter I4. Original motor, orignal trans. I loved that car, never had any problem with it. Good luck on the Stratus.
