Is it possible to mod a '93 to have the auto unlock feature like the 94 and newer ga's? Its weird gm had the auto lock feature and not the auto unlock.

I'll have to check the shop manual diagrams to verify, but it might just be a matter of swapping the "multi-function alarm module" with the 94-95 version.

After looking at the '94-'95 doorlock wiring diagram it appears that the multi-function alarm only controls the lock function and the unlock has a separate module for the unlock. Since my '93 already has the auto lock, I only need the auto unlock module. The dealership says its discontinued, so I pull one at the junkyard. My question is: did I get the right module since the wire colors are different from the diagram. The module is light green plastic housing with a small circuit board inside with the numbers#12020004. The housing has 6 lettered terminals(A-F) with an access flap to get to the circuit board. The wire colors are: (B)pink, (C)white, (D)black, (E)green/black stripe.

The wiring diagram shows: (B)pink- ignition input, (C)brown-unlock control, (D)black-ground, (F)brown-battery. Is it possible gm changed the module with out updating the wiring diagram or did I get the wrong module? Seems like it should be an easy mod as long as I have the right module and right wire location. Any input would be appreciated- thanks

I'll have to see what I can find next time I dig into the manuals. Unfortunately it gets rather confusing when GM just added modules all over the place instead of having a revised multi-function module or legit BCM.

I looked under my dash in my 93 and I found the same green module as I got at the junk yard from a 94. This green module must control the courtesy lights or something judging from the wire colors.
I went back to the junk yard and I found a similiar module that was beige with the #12135067 on the board and the correct wire colors and locations on the housing. The dealership confirmed the part number, its revised and discontinued so I better wire it up right the first time. The location of the module is behind the radio taped to a wire loom thats strapped to the radio support bracket. Hopefully this will give 92-93 owners the auto unlock feature as the 94 and 95. The 94 corsica, beretta, skylark, achieva, ciera also have the same module if you can't find one for a grand am, for anybody else wanting to try this mod.

I think the green one you speak of was either the lamp dimmer module or the cruise control module.

Behind the radio on the support? Don't think my 94 or 95 had any module there. I probably would have noticed, as I removed that support in both cars to gain additional depth for aftermarket headunit mounting.

Good luck.

Edit: I stand corrected... guess I never noticed it before since it's wrapped in foam, smaller than I imaged, and tucked off to the side:
