Go to Auto Zone they will give you a nice print out of all the component testing associated with any given code.

It's OK to drive the car.
If the SES light is flashing, then you need to take care of the problem right away, or additional damage will occur to components (primarily O2 sensors and catalytic converter).
If the SES light is 'solid', then the problem needs to be taken care of soon, but not immediately.
When the SES light is 'on', the engine's computer has defaulted to a very rich 'imp-home mode called 'open-loop'; this uses a LOT of gasoline, and gives rather mediocre engine performance.
The Camshaft Position Sensor is used by the V6 for sequencing the fuel injection pulses.
There are some kind of 'teeth' on the camshaft that have magnetic tips, and the sensor reads the passing of each 'tooth'.
It is a 'Hall Effect' sensor which is a kind of semi-conductor electronic device, and it has no moving parts as such.
So there's nothing that can really go wrong with it, other than becoming out-of-position relative to the camshaft or having a problem with the wiring and/or connector that serves it. Or getting shorted-out by a voltage spike.
IIRC, the CMS is located in 'left front' of the block, below and ahead of Cylinder No. 2.
It inserts into the block all the way to the camshaft, right where the mechanical fuel pump was when this engine was a 2.8l carbureted version.
Locate the sensor, and make sure it's firmly seated. Then check its wiring, and plug-unplug the connector several times to clean dirt and corrosion from the 3 pins and sockets inside.
Hope this helps,
