Dudes, I have replaced the heater blower resister about three month's ago on my 1999 Grand Am. I it has failed again. I does work on high setting. Is this a normal deal or is some kind of fix that will work?

G.M. updated that part because of frequent failures. Here is the box from the latest one; this one was manufactured in Japan and is the new one.
Make sure you're not getting old stock from the parts counter.....

And watch out about buying that part from Auto Zone or non-dealer parts stores, they usually don't have the most recent upgrade. The dealership is your best bet.

Exact same thing happened to me. Further discussion in the thread "Blower Motor Resistor"
I also find it odd that it failed again after 3 months in my case too. Possibly other factors at play.

I replaced the resister again, I did a little extra work and followed the wiring. I found some one has wired the switch them self to the high side of the switch. I'm wondering if the control switch may be bad on the slower settings. Anyone ever have the fan speed switch give anyone issues?

I don't recall the model number, sorry.

Solved fan problem. Replaced resister repaired screwy wiring job former owners did. Fan working on all 5 speeds. For now anyway.

That blows when a previous owner screws around with wires and mickey-mouses things up. No way would I even consider purchasing a GA if I noticed any type of electrical mods done to it; particularly anything to do with wiring / electronics / lighting.

That's why I'm leaving mine all 100% Pontiac stock... it was hard for me to find one owned by a man in his 70's.. can't tell you how lucky I was to find it... And I'm too old now to start stuff like that, lol.....
Old geezer now, compared to you guys...

I didn't know the blower wiring had been screwed with until it stopped working. It's still a nice car. Age is a frame of mind. I'm 46 and I still run circles around my younger buddies. :D

Oh man... apologies. I didn't know the age when I posted that reply, lol..... I'm so used to seeing guys here in their late teens, 20's... maybe early 30's too...
I'm happy to see another guy closer to my age...

Feelin' my age ?? Hmmm.. Well for starters my nephew, the policeman that he is, tells me "Uncle Tom.. you're gonna get a ticket for going too slow"...
I guess that shows how I drive my GT1, lol...

But in the 70's.... ah, those 70's..... that's when I screwed around with my Firebird Formula 400 and my Trans Am. I wish I could have a few of those psychedelic days now...
