Well, I finally got fed up with the leaking LIM, the blowing spark plugs, and the high 16 second 1/4 mile on the 3100, so it was time for a little upgrade. Last weekend, two guys from my local Pontiac club made the long trek down here to the sticks from Toronto, we (but really it was all them) managed to remove the 3100, and drop a 3400 in and get it running, in 16.5 hours. Starting at 10AM, and ending at 2:30am Monday morning.

Hopefully not, 3rd pic down shows the work we did on the new LIM gasket, it's the updated one, they've been putting it in for almost 2 years now, and none have come back yet! Not to mention the amount of silicon we put it there.:P

As for being more fun to drive, it's unbelivable, the power increase is VERY noticable, it's actually startling me a little bit, I have to get used to acutally accelerating when I hit the gas.

Nice! I hope it doesn't follow you. I had the LIM done with the new style gasket and it started leaking again a year later. Granted that could have been a mistake on the mechanics part. Should have just taken it to a dealer lol... Glad they got that all fixed, and glad I have a 100,000 mile warranty on my Equinox ;)

Damn, thats not what I wanted to hear. Oh well, guess it wouldn't truly be a GA if I didn't have to keep an eye on the LIM now would it?;)

Spent way too much money on mods this year. This year was supposed to be paint, and motor next year, but they got lumped together. I pretty much love the car the way it is right now, looks good, it's faster than most other 96-98's, so I can't complain.

Probably going to be getting the exhaust next year, someone only put one pipe out the back, so I've got a big hole on the right side, might as well upgrade! Do my research this winter, and decide next year. Other than that...keep it running, look into a turbo...the basics.

What is a rough amount you spent on swapping out the motor. Also the 3400 that you put in, did they get a junkyard one and fix it up or did they just buy a new one. Just wondering.

Total cost of the swap was in the area of $1000-$1500, maybe a little more with labour. I lost count because of all the parts coming and being returned. I spent a little more than I wanted to on the motor, but it had everything attached to it minus the starter and alt.

3100 starter will fit on a 3400, but you wouldn't want it. Find a 3400 starter, they're WAY better, much lighter, and more reliable.
