my 93 GA GT won’t shift out of P. and the brake lights do not work!

We can switch it out of P by turning on the engine, turning off the engine to Accessories. Put it in N start the car then once it starts, shift to whatever gear needed. Someone said to use a volt meter and check the brake light switch. Do I need a special volt meter? Or how much does a volt meter cost? BP Procare was estimating that it would be $150.00 depending on the cost of the part. They said it sounds like the nuetral safety switch. I mentioned that to a co-worker that fixes his cars a lot. He doesn’t agree with that.

When I push the brake light switch, the brake lights do not come on!

Let me know what I need to do!

Help somebody! I am starting to do things myself. I want to learn!!

There is a sensor that keeps you from shifting if the brakes aren't applied. Since your brake lights don't come on that part or something related to the brakes would be my guess. Unfortunately my service manuals don't go back as far as 1993 so I can't really help you any more...
