I'm new to this but can't seem to get information elsewhere. My rear deck speakers in my 2001 Grand Am blew and I need to replace them. I have the Monsoon system and need to know what kind of speakers I should buy as replacements and where the best deal is. I called Crutchfield and the tech said there was only one option available and the pair was $170. I called the Pontiac dealership and all they knew was I could buy stock replacements for $130/pair. Need some help! Thanks!

Being monsoon, the speakers are different a impeedancethen most aftermarket speakers, so your limited to drop in speakers that you can use. If your not looking to do some audio upgrades in the future, I'd probably go with some OEM speakers...

Thanks for the info. So basic 6 X 9 speakers won't work well then (like the $50 ones on Crutchfield)? I wasn't planning on spending much but I don't want horrible sound either. The factory stock ones really weren't bad and I want something comprable to those. Where would I get OEM ones? Or should I just pay $130 and get stock replacements from GM? Not sure what to do because I probably won't have the car a lot longer but can't be cruising without decent sound. Suggestions?

99% of aftermarket speakers are 4 ohms. Monsoon speakers, I believe, are 2 ohms, and have dual inputs, one for mid and highs. With that in mind a typical 6x9 won't just drop in place. I don't know of any places on line that sell OEM GM replacement speakers, but I'm sure you can find somone who deals with GM replacement parts and get them cheaper than if you walked into a stealership  and ordered them. Possibly gmpartsdirect.com

I ended up ordering a pair from the Pontiac dealership. I figured that way if I have problems I can take them back. I couldn't find anyone at gmpartsdirect.com and didn't want to risk getting the wrong ones elswhere. Thanks again for all the hlep!!
