View Full Version : GAOC running slow?

Has the site been taking forever for anybody else? It seems for me that after the update it takes forever for anything to load.

Yea, I get that too... I thought it was just me though

Any particular time of the day this occurs? Or all the time?

I seem to notice more in the evening.. 5-6 ish CST

When the load on the server increases, it will certainly slow down some. I'm working to optimize our server settings, but what we really need is patience from the membership. We don't have unlimited funds to have the best available hosting, we're trying to make due with what we can afford.

You can help us by letting us know exactly when you notice specific slowdowns. Keeping a time record (with timezone) may help us track down any potential problems.

Thanks for moving it, I wasn't sure where to put it :)

Anyway, it seems to be at all times of the day for me, not a specific time where it seems worse or anything. It will take up to a few minutes to load a page in its entirety. For me the text and frames load up after maybe a minute after I click anything, but to fully load any pictures or graphics it will go up to 5 minutes. For example as I'm typing this, things such as the smilies and other formatting options are still loading after a couple minutes.

That's odd, it should not be that slow. People remote linking images from slow hosts like photobucket, etc, tends to slow the site down, but our own images should load quite quickly.

Any chance you could post the results of a TRACERT to gaownersclub.com?

Actually since the upgrade I noticed things loading much faster for me. The old version seem it took forever to load.

Same here Joe. That's why Shawn's suggestions would be most helpful in determining where any problem might be.

last time i told you about it you did something and it speeded up for a couple days. here the past few days it's been getting slow again. there's not a particular time of day on a consistant basis....i get on at pretty random times.

When I notice a slowdown I do a server reboot and it seems to speed things up for a while. I just rebooted the server 30 minutes ago, and things are running VERY well for me at the moment.

I also have been experiencing the site being very slow its 10 AM right now and I was on like around 9 PM last night and it was going really slow. Just like GT2000 I have been loading this particular page for about 4 mins and the icon and smilies still have not loaded.

could also depend on your IP. For example right now, I have verizon dsl and at 5pm I can NOT connect to myspace, facebook, or eBay... this is a little slower than normal but google flys.

I too have been wondering this also. Ive been slow ever since the update also, pretty much all times of the day also. All my other sites I still go through while browsing GAOC and are fine. Wish I could help more, but it's pretty much all day since I get on a few times a day.

When I run into issues, its typically a TIMED OUT issue, not something in relation to another site with remote image linking.

At night (5am at the moment) this site flies. But during the afternoon it seems to bog down.

At about 5-7am this morning (Saturday), I noticed the site was bog'n pretty badly. Had a couple time outs. Its now 9:20pm and I haven't had any issues at all. Everything loads nice and quick.

I had a similar problem a couple of months back. Traceroute showed that somewhere along the line it was taking forever on one hop. Now the problem is gone.

For those of you experiencing this problem, it may help to run a traceroute to GAOC and see if it's pre-host. For me, it was a complete pain in the ass but I seemed to be the only one experiencing it, and it only affected GAOC for me.

To do so in Windows, click Start and then Run. Type cmd and hit enter.

Once your command prompt opens, type "tracert www.gaownersclub.com" without the quotes.

If there is particular link or hop that is taking longer than the rest, type any IP address and domain information you can.

Doing so will let the staff know if the problem(s) reside(s) with the host or somewhere in between.

Pontiac
12-29-2007, 11:02 PM
Hadn't even thought of that. Mind you this isn't 100% as sometimes routes get changed, but it'd be a good clear indication of where things are fowling up. To note as well, during the ping process of the tracert, you may end up hitting a NO REPLY scenerio, which basically means that a particular router is dropping all ICMP requests (Which is what a ping is) so then the trace never finishes.

Alright, well I never got around to doing a trace or anything cause I've been busy at work and with holidays and stuff. I haven't been able to jump on the site in a while and it would take so long it was barely worth it :( Well the other day I picked up a new router. A D-Link DIR-655, and I decided to try and jump on today, and it flys. But since I haven't been on in a while I can't say for sure whether it had something to do with my old router or if something was cleared up over the past month :( Either way though, its back to normal for me :D
