Which would be better, two 10'' ALpine type R's or one 12" MB Quart??

For subs I'd definitely say go with the alpine type-R's. You gonna go ported or sealed?
also just to double check, make sure you get the type-rs, dont pay less for the type-s, the Rs are MUCH better, worth the extra money. Try to throw atleast 500 watts to each.

i listen to mostly rapso would sealed or ported be better?? I have a 12" ALpine type E right now in a bandpass box and it sounds really good, a lot of ppl comment on how good it sounds and are surprised that i only have one 12'', but i really dislike the bandbass box and I want to upgrade

get the type r's... i know i'm biased, but still... i don't think MB Quartzs subs slam all that hard... and i'd stay with sealed... i've only heard one system that ever sounded REALLY good ported, and that was with JL w3v6's

If you build a good ported box, it will compliment your music preference. Just make sure to go by the subs spec sheet for size, port dimension, etc....

I'd leave mids and highs to MB Quart, but I'd definately pick up the Type R 10's for your bass.
I have 2 Type R 12's (sealed) running off an M500 and I love them. Not a whole ton of bass, but it can be overwhelming at times. My friend has 2 Type R 15's (curently sealed) off an MTX 81000D and its rediculous. Given enough power the R's can do some damage.

i agree...for loud bass go with type Rs. the Quarts are sound quality subs, not meant for loud. ported boxes can be louder than sealed, but you need to build it Precisely to what the manufacturer suggests.
birdhouse...were they w3v2 or w6v2.

I'd say go ported. They'll be louder and sound really close to as good. It all depends what you tune them too, what notes you want it to hit hard. You said mostly rap? You'd want to tune it from 35 to 40hz I'd say. Email me jakebeez@yahoo.com with your dimensions and I'll see if I can design you a box. As for the manufactorers recommendations there usually ok, not always the best but they'll work.
