When i was looking at the GMOS-04 stereo adapter, it looks really confusing on what connects to what. Can anyone tell me how you wire this to the headunit and then connect it to the plug that usuallly goes into the back of the monsoon stereo?

The RCA's will plug into the back of you deck, just like as if you were installing a 4 channel amp.
White - LF, Gray - RF, Green - LR, Purple - RR.
You won't be needing the speaker leads from the harness of your aftermarket radio, just neatly tape them off.
After that, just match up the colors. Yellow (constant power) to Yellow, Red ( switched power) to Red, Black (ground) to Black, And blue/white(remote turn on) to Blue/white.If the Deck has illumination (oranage/white) match that up as well. After that you should be set for sound.

o.k., i've never had to use a gmos-04 adapter but heres a question. What would you do if you buy a cheap 99 dollar wal-mart headunit. I'm sure they wont have 2 sets of rca's on them to be able to hook up the 2 sets of rca's on the gmos-04. My high end headunit has 3 sets (1 set for subs) but i have installed cheap ass headunits for people that had no or 1 set of preouts on them. So basically what I get out of this is if youre going to use this gmos-04 adapter then you need to make sure the headunit is of high enough quality to have 2 sets of preouts. or i guess you would only have 2 speakers working if the hu only has 1 set.

i was told if you have monsoon, to get it work w/o running a separate power wire, you have to use the GMOS-04. its made specifically for GM cars with Monsoon or Bose and chimes.
i have a 2005 model Kenwood. it has 2 sets of outputs and their labed left, front, rear, front. and it also has a set for subwoofers. so the gmos-04 should work. the gmos-01 and gmrc-01 will not work with monsoon, and ive tried all the other harnesses. The GMOS-04 is the only one i havent used and i was told this is the one to use.

In the case of a headunit with only 1 set of RCA preouts, you would either need Y adaptors, and would then loose some adjustability (balance and fade), or if you only chose to plug in 2 of the RCA's only 2 speakers would have audio.
Warbeaver, I responded to your PM.

yeah i suppose you can do that, thats like taking a mono vcr and running that into a y adaptor into your receiver so you can get pseudo stereo sound. I guess for people who could care less about sound quality and like you said losing adjustibility then it would work.

The GMRC-01 will work with Monsoon, thats what I got and it works fine, I do have all aftermarket now, but it did work with the factory speakers as well. I guess if you were just changing the deck out the GMOS-04 would be quicker to install.

yellow is constant power, that needs to hooked up to a constant power source that doesnt cut off when you turn the key off, this constant power is what saves your presets and e.q. settings and clock. The red switched power is the wire that needs to hooked up to a source that cuts the power when your key is turned off. This is what makes the radio shut on and off when you turn the key on and off.

This is a 10 month old thread, but like you said you were doing in the other thread, just take it back too see if it works for them, check your radio to see if it even turns on when hooked up to a battery (twist the red and yellow together and touch to the positive on a car battery, touch the black to the negative on the battery, see if it works then).
