View Full Version : 3800 with 3300 tranny
I was wondering if anyone would know if the 3800 engine would be compatible with the 3300 three speed transmission. If not, would a 3800 engine and tranny fit in a GA?:???:

I've talked to a friend of mine who has a '99 GA. I think this applies to just about all GA's when it comes to a 3800. He seems to think you'd need to put a tranny designed for use with the 3800 in with the 3800. Otherwise the 3800 will quickly fry your 3.3L's 3-speed. Another problem is that a GA is narrower than most any 3800 powered FWD. That means you'll need shorter driveaxles to fit the 3800 tranny's wider stance. So in short, no, but if you really, really want it, yes, with a ton of work.

The 3800 and the 3300 share the same block, so there isnt any size difference I would think. As for the tranny, the 3 speed tranny is junk. Why they ever put one in a GA is beyond me. Get the 4 speed if ya do anything.
