hey there all. i'm not positive if this would go under this area but i have a problem after people smoke in my car. it doesn't bother me when they smoke, they roll down the window. the problem is getting the smell out of the car itself. anyone have any recommendations. i don't want to mask it with something like an air freshener, i want to eliminate it. thanks in advance for the help

just smoke a blunt after they smoke a cigarette, the pot smell will overpower the cigarette smell, j/k , for real though there's this ozium stuff that I use for my car as well as febreeze for auto's that works well. I'm a smoker but I hate the smell in my car. I also carpet clean and upholstery clean every couple months which helps keep that crap out. I'm in the process of quitting but it's hard as hell.

(for the carpet cleaning scoop up a bissell little green, they work great for your ride and theyre only 50 bucks.

x2, definately need to quit myself. i just febreeze regularly and keep the leather up with leather cleaner and stuff. my car usually smells more like a brand new leather interior than smoke.

Febreeze.

I don't tend to get too much smokey' smell in my car though, I tend to step out of the vehicle for a smoke on the rare occasion that I do so (I make a pack of Marlboro last at least 1.5 months due to the price...)

Ugh I HATE cigarette smell in cars. I'll knock somebody's lighter out the window before they smoke in my car. Mine's never been smoked in and it never will be.

My buddy is an avid smoker, but due to legalities in this great country, he prefers if his car doesn't smell of broken laws. He keep an air freshener in the car all the time, but once a week he sprays Febreeze's Fabric Refresher over the interior. It has a nice smell, but it also removes the offending odors.

In fact, I liked the outcome so much, when I got my couches from a friend of ours, we used the same product on it and it smells brand new (I sell furniture).

what do you mean, i'm confused. it's legal to smoke in your ride. AAhhhhhhhh, o.k. I get it, it's the other kind of smoke.

Correct, he recently cut back and now only does it to study. It helps with Severe ADHD in adults when used in small quantities. I don't smoke, but see nothing wrong with it so long as it's in moderation and helps improve your quality of life.

+1 for Ozium. That stuff is magical. Also recommended for "bathroom" odors.

It's your car... nothing wrong with not allowing people to smoke in it. Alternatively, they can volunteer to drive.

Smoking in cars ftl... My .02. If you have a decent car, why ruin it by making it smell rank?

no smoking in any of my cars. i can count on one hand the number of times someone has smoked in my truck in the 9 years i've had it. and they had to roll the window down, hold their cigarette right by the window, and blow their smoke out the window.

i dont smoke and i can smell that stuff a mile away. it's your car, if they dont like it they can drive themselves. most smokers are considerate of your wishes if you don't want your car to smell like an ashtray. people that ride with me know to inhale one before they get in my car

i know the ozium stuff everyone is talking about, it works pretty good. febreeze works decently. spray the headliner pretty liberally. but you're really only masking the odor, not getting rid of it.

clean the carpets on a regular basis, keep the windows down when you can for air circulation

yeah i've been trying like hell to quit. I think i'm going to try that prescription chantix that seems to work well for people. My friend just started it so i'll see how it does for him and then i'll scoop some up.

one of my friends was on that. it was....interesting...to say the least. if it's the one i think it is, it tricks your mind into thinking that you've already smoked. there's only one problem with this that i've noticed. if you miss a dosage 2 words come from your mouth real quick, HULK SMASH! thanks for the ideas. i myself don't have an issue with the smoke, everyone has their habits. i just want to get rid of the smell

Have you had the roof steam cleaned?

That would probably make the biggest difference.

As for totally getting the smell out. Steam clean everything possible a few times really well, headliner, carpet, seats (if cloth)

Wipe down all plastic pieces with something (Windex works well for removing smoke stains)

That's probably the best thing you could do. As a smoker, I smoke in my car, and I have no problem letting the person riding shotgun smoke if they are so inclined. However since I have had the GA I have had one rule that I try to stand behind. No smoking in the back seat, sober, drunk, anytime at all. At least I can monitor the person riding shotgun while they smoke...

I've always wanted to do this but i've always been afraid that the glue in the headliner would loosen up and the cloth would just be dangling there. Remember gm's back in the 80's, it seems like the cloth was always coming undone in the headliner and I remember many cars where people would use staples to staple it back up (looked tacky as hell). Anyway it seems newer gm's dont have that problem but I thought maybe if I were to try this with my mini green carpet cleaner that it could spell disaster.

I do the same as well. I have to have my windows cracked an inch or 2 to smoke (cant stand the hotboxin shit) anyways with the wind coming in through the window if I were to let people smoke in the back there would be ashes all over the place and cherries busting off onto my upholstery. I've been lucky that I only have one burn hole, more like a spot because it's not a true hole, and that was there when I bought the car.

I smoked in my car for 5 years and no burn holes. I absolutely regret smoking in it. The smell won't really ever go away unless I replace ALL the upholstery.

ok i found that if i have someone in my car that smokes and i want it out ill just go get a 5 dollar pizza at any chain pizza restaurant and drive around for about 5 to 10 min and for the next week you'll smell pizza lol. trust me it works it covers it up so well. sorry for the regular smokers because you'd have to buy lots of pizzas and thats big $$$ after awhile.
