I have the nicest subs out of anyone around, however, they don't sound it with all the rattle i have. what are some other choices to kill the rattle other than dynamat?

You'll find that just putting rolled sound deadener all over won't cure all the rattles..using foam tape works amazing. If you can find the point of contact on all the rattles, putting foam tape or any foam in there takes it away 100%. I used eDead sound deadener along with the foam and I have no noticeable rattles.

While I haven't had the opportunity to install a system in the GA, I do have a impressive system in the Mirage which used to vibrate my deck lid on the trunk. Most cars have two parts to the trunk, the frame and the decklid. These are tack welded together, but still have lots fo room to vibrate when introduced to a sub woofer. Here's the best solution, which I learned from a car audio guru on the Mirage forum...

Use a can of Great Stuff expanding foam to insulate the space between the frame and the deck lid. Make sure to lay a plastic bag over your trunk when your doing so because the foam will drip down after expanding. Shave the excess off with a razor. This fills the voids and prevents the deck lid from rattling against the framework. After which, if your more into esthetics's then I, you can dynamat the underside to hide the Great Stuff, and provide sound deadening.

Dynamat alone wont solve the vibrating trunk problem, it only deadens sound, it doest prevent it form vibrating. Don't forget, bass is omni directional unlike your standard speakers. It affects everything around it, not just in front.

Make sense?

Also remember to watch out for too much use of expanding foam, you don't want to fill the area at first, it will distort your trunk as it expands and dries.

Greatstuff wont distort your trunk at all. It's a liquid that expands to conform to it's surroundings. It doesn't have enough mass to move anything, whatever doesn't fit where you spray it will expand out and drip onto your plastic tarp. I have been using the stuff on and off for 5 years for home improvements.

Most of the expanding foams used can move it though, so it's a good idea to know how the foam of choice works. I've seen trunk lids that look like a bomb went off in the trunk from excess use of expanding foam.

Not looking to argue. So long as your use Great Stuff Expanding Foam, red and yellow can, and not anything else, the procedure will be fine, no matter how much you use. I used an entire can on my trunk and it is small then the deck lid on the GA. I had lots of over-spill which I razored off and cleaned using solvents.

Again, not looking to argue, but in my 6 years of car shows at midnight (585 and University in Fort Lauderdale and The Fever here in O-town), I have never seen what your proposing. Sorry.

you make sense to me. thnx for the options guys. but i think im going to go with this Great Stuff. however i was thinking of putting dynamat on top of the stuff. idk if that would make a difference or worse?

Your supposed to put Dynamat to cover the underside, after the Greatstuff is shaved and complete. This dresses it up, hiding the yellow foam you see in my trunk, and prevents the transmission of vibrations to the trunk. No one ever sees my trunk and its only for my own entertainment so I didn't care to spend the money on Dynamat... :-)

First, open your trunk and take whatever you have in it out. Then cover the trunk using a large black garbage bag, or something similar. Tape the sides of the bag to your rear fenders so it is somewhat taunt and doesn't lay in your trunk.

Next prepare the can of Great Stuff and begin spraying it into the holes, start with the bottom holes and don't over do it yet. Remember, this stuff expands to several times it's original size as it drys. Use as much of the foam as you'd like once you get a feel for it, any excess will be removed later. Move up the frame until all the holes have some in it. Lower your trunk so it isn't completely vertical and go get a drink. It takes awhile to expand and solidify.

After an hour or so has passed, go check on the progress. The foam will have crept passed the edges of the framework and dripped down onto the plastic you laid out in the first step. Using a toothpick, poke a hole into one of the larger sized masses, if it comes back clean then th foam is solid, if it still is gooey allow it to stand longer. It's hell to clean while still gooey/liquid.

Once completely solid, remove any excess using a razor blade. Shave around the edges of your frame and smooth out the holes to be flush with the framework. This will make it more esthetically pleasing. Once you trim it back, you will notice it has filled any voids between the frame and the deck lid. If there is any residue which you would like to remove which you cannot remove with a razor, any solvent will remove the foam/residue.

Again, once your complete, there will be yellow foam visible in the holes. if you want to make it appear stock/OEM, you can either use Dynamat (which will add weight to your trunk), or carpet it using an OEM style automotive carpet.

EDIT: If you want an idea of this stuff expansion properties, check out this video http://youtube.com/watch?v=YYHppIlAMhE but use as much as you want, any excess will be easily cleaned once dry, and you want to fill all the gaps/voids between the frame and the lid.
