If you wanna put a pair of aftermarket speakers in the rear, say Kenwood or JL Audio, with a monsoon system installed already, would it have better sound with better bass? or does it loss bass because its not using the monsoon speakers anymore?

IIRC the Monsoon speakers have two inputs, so you will lose quality with a one input speaker unless you rewire the system. Just test each set of wires to see which sounds best and run those.

so basically, when you replace your speakers, you want to do an amp and a subwoofer int the trunk

If you're looking for all around better sound, replace the HU with the speakers.

The deal with factory systems (Monsoon, Bose, Rockford, Pioneer, etc.) is that they are specifically made to work in harmony together so they have a balanced sound.
Replace the speakers with something aftermarket and it might act completely opposite of what you were looking for.

IMO, HU, Speakers, 1 10" sub is perfect for me. I trust only high brands.

Also, when looking to replace speakers, don't just look at prices or RMS/Peak power handling. Look for the frequency response. A speaker that has lowest freq. at 40hz will sound better and deeper than a speaker that has a lowest operating freq of 100hz.
Related... If you just want to replace the speakers and leave the HU stock, find a lower-power speaker with a lower operating freq.

rms is kind of important to match, rms is the recomended wattage for the speaker to sound the best.

Does anyone manufacture twin input speakers? Or, is it possible to jumper the wires from one input to the other?

I believe I did see something about Infinity Kappa Perfect 6x9's being 2 ohm, and having seperate inputs (one for highs and another for mid range). Don't quote me though...

u arent blowing them your breaking the tweeter paper. the monsoons wont blow for a long time. just take out the tweeter and rip out that paper stuff surrounding the tweeter and itll be fine, but then u gotta wire in some aftermarket tweeters and just mount them on the back seats.
The infinity kappa's are 2 ohm but NOT WORTH IT. i have them in my car and they cost about 130 off ebay and around 200 brand new. u will lose bass with those cause they are underpowered. best way to go if your going to keep the HU is to get some brand new monsoon speakers off GMPARTSDIRECT.COM, (they are like 20bux a piece on there), get a nice aftermarket set of tweeters(30-50 can get u a decent set), rip out the delco tweeter before u install them and do it that way. my monsoon sounded much better with that setup. oh and another thing, the kappa speakers dont completely fit in the holes so u gotta get pliers and bend some of the hole to make it bigger.

I noticed that my rear driver side 6x9 is blown but i do hear bass just no treble. just bass and ugly sounding rattleing. Guess i gotta rip it apart and investigate this. Thanks for the info.

also. if i am going to just replace with an aftermarket tweeter, doesn`t it matter which Ohm they are. aren`t the "tweeter" side of the amp outputs 4ohm?

when taking out the tweeter, all u gotta do is grab it and turn it and it unscrews out, then just rip the rest of the paper crap from around the tweeter, you'll know what im talkin about when u see it. im pretty sure it doesnt matter what ohm the tweeters are, i think the ones i used were either 4 or 6, i dont think they make 2ohm tweeters but they might, either way, dont matter.

just use a dmm and check the ohms on the tweeter if ur worried about matching them.

:???:Quick yes or no question... i have a 99 GTGT with the factory amp and what i beleive to be a monsoon system i replaced the deck with a 220 watt MP3 KOSS deck and added 2 12 inch Xplod subs sounds bad ass... but my question is.... are the xplod 6X9's and 5 1/4's better then the factory... the way it is now is better then my sunfire sounded with the same deck/subs with the 6X9's and 5 1/4's...

Basicaly the question is Xplod or non-Xplod?

hey kyle. xplods are no good with the monsoon, i had them all'round and blew them within weeks. i suggest leaving the system the way it is right now if you like it. i am constantly opening up my trunk to play around witht he speakers. i got MTX all'round now, they sound good but not too much bass in my system (without my dual MTX 10" in the trunk lol)

Xplods are rarely any good anyways. If you want to upgrade your speakers at least upgrade them with something better than Wal-Mart's selection. Chaun and I could give plenty of suggestions on good equipment, him moreso than me because of experience.
