Are pissing me off. I put in some new kickers a few months ago..

everything was great until i switched from 2 10" bazookas to 2 12" JL's..

now they are rattling. i knew it was the speakers bc i observed it when it first started..i havnt had the time to go after it but i did tonight, and the reason being is the speakers dont line up with screw wholes, so i tried to screw it in tighter..no luck..

1) would cotton between the two metals stop the rattling?
2) do i buy new rear speakers?

The speakers don't fit in the stock brackets?

No I understand, it happens often. Well, if it's in the plastic bracket that can be removed, you can drill smaller new holes to screw into.
or you can use shorter screws.
If you know for a fact that a new speaker will fit, you can go that route.

Cotton can be a temporary fix.

There is foam tape that has one adhesive side. You can also try that. Subwoofers come with this stuff too sometimes to help seal to the box.

There's many things you could do, I'd be able to help you more in person.

If you were closer, I'd help you.

Now that I think of it...
The problem you're speaking of is the metal on the speaker is rattling against the chassis metal where the speaker mounts?

If this is the case, stores that sell toppers for trucks have big rolls of padding that goes between the truck box and topper. You can get a roll of this and use it as much as you want.

You could probably use Hushmat or Dynamat.

I have a 98 with two 6x9 Alpine speakers that rattle. I had a shop do mine and I don't remember them rattling as much as they do now. I'm actually going to take a look at them right now, I had a temp idea to just put foam between the metal and speaker frame and also screw them in tighter. Most of the rattle goes away when I put upward pressure on the speakers. Yes the trunk still shakes but I don't hear that from inside, my issue is I hear the rattle from inside and I need to take care of that first. I think I took a look, and they're not standard screws either, So I don't know how to take them out. I might just take it back(even though it's been a year) and see what they can do.

Okay, so I got frustrated and googled how the hell I'm suppose to get to the speakers. WTF... manufactures are complete retards, I have to completely disassemble the rear interior just to get at two speakers that are rattling. I'm mean it is a good theft deterrent, but when it is just two lil speakers I could give a rats ass... So, I might attempt to massacre the rear section of my car, or I'll just take it back to Stereo West (where I got the system done) and demand to have them fix the rattling that they installed. I'm fairly pissed if you guys couldn't tell, this was going to be a half hour project, now I'm looking at nearly 2 hours.

Its not as hard as it seems, I could get the back speakers out within a half hour on my 1995. Just wear safety googles when taking out the upper trim piece, those stupid panel clips break easily and will fly at you. Torn Scalera for 2 weeks on that one. :o
