455s are nice ... BBs for the win :)
I have a '77 TA with a 400 :)

Thats hot, makes me miss both my '79 TA and '81. Tobad either one didn't have a 400 or 455. Just the crappy the Olds 403 and paper weight 301.
BTW, LOVE the Mickey Thompson valve covers!

My 79 was a 301 car with 60 k on it when I got it. Pick't up a 455 a week later and did a rebuild. Gave the 301 away. ;)

What a beauty! I'm drooling.
What are the dyno numbers? Ever raced against a modern LS1 F-body?

Damn, that thing looks like it came off the assembly line last week!!!
Btw, what kind of cam are you running and with your carbs, what is their CFM, are they vacuum or mechanical secondaries or double pumpers? At how much throttle do you need to be to really have both carbs opening up? Also, how does 3500rpm stall make for general driving? I take it though that the bird is not a daily driver. :)

Yeah I lost a auction on Ebay for a freshly rebuilt '69 400 RAIII motor. It was for pick up only in Long Island. Would have been so worth the drive for the $880 it went for.

cam is from nunzi pontiac a little over 500 lift. two 600 holleys, mechanical secondaries (mechanical secondaries are double pumpers). 3500 stall is a little funky on the street but you get use to it. you dont get use to 3 miles a gallon and ya i drive it all the time.

Ouch! For your sake, I hope you're exaggerating a bit on the 3 mpg. I can believe it's not much more than 8 or 9 though.

it's 3 to 4 mpg. thats 462 cid and a big cam. duel quads. its sucking fuel big time. :( but the up side is its damn fast. ;)

I was always under the impression that not ALL mechanical secondary carbs are double pumpers. Take the Holley 4160. It comes in mechanical secondaries yet it does not have the second accelerator pump circuit. However, the Holley 4150 DOES have the second accelerator pump.

Hehehe, when you build a car like that, fuel economy is the least thing one is concerned about! :)

My 80 Camaro LT V8 looked a lot like your car. Probably the same color code (80) I bought this for $100 and put a cam kit, shocks, tires and flowmaster cat back in it and got $3000 for it.
It had 41,000 original miles on it and was old lady driven.

hahaha no it just fell in my lap. I knew a person that worked with their husband and they didn't even know what kind of car it was. They just wanted it out of the garage. When I went to go see it the opened the garage and low and behold I seen the back of an old camaro and dual exhaust. Just dumb luck..
My Grand Am was sitting across the street from my job for a month not moving and at the time I was restoring an 89 and I went there during lunch to see if it would make a good parts car. I was told the owner doesn't want to put a new motor in it so I said "tell her I'll give her $300". I received a call later that day saying she will take $350 and I jumped on it. It wasn't till I got it to my garage I realized it was so nice and a great started car. I ended up junking the 89 Grand Am and swapping the 5 speed and engine from it into the 90.

That 77 TA and 79 Formula rock. Always wanted a 72-73 White TA w/455. Thought they always handled well for having a big block in them.

A member on here RJ (bluez) just picked up a gold 2nd Geneartion Firebird and I thought of this thread when he showed my photos on his camera phone. Not far from my house but locked behind a fence. Can't wait to go see it.
