Hey guys, just wondering if anyone knows how a person can find out their theftlock code? I am tryin to sell my Monsoon deck but never thought about the theftlock for the buyer. I bought the car second hand and there was no mention of the code so Im guessing it is long gone. Any way to find out what is stored in the deck? Thanks.

well, i know one way to find out is to disconnect the battery, and connect it again and when you try to turn on your radio, if it works automatically then there isnt a theftlock code programmed. but if there is one, then when you turn it on it will ask you to put it in. then ur kindof screwd. lol. other than that, i'd just say take it to the dealer and ask them to see if they can somehow find if there is one programmed in it. I'm sure that there have been people that have forgotten their codes for the system.

Hmm is that for newer models too? and Monsoon? Cause mine is an 01, and Ive disconnected the battery tons and have never had any problems at all, just put the power back on and it starts up like normal. It would be good if there was liek a sequence of keys that would display the current code or soemthing.

Well, I went through the manual before removing it asking the same question to myself. it says that when the radio is disconnected from the power source, that is when the theftlock kicks on, and when power is reconnected, that it asks u to put in the code. and I know that I disconnected my battery loads of times like you and come to the conclusion that there wasnt a code programmed in it. Before selling it, i took the removed radio to the dealer to double check that there wasnt a code and sure enough, they hooked power up to it and it operated normal. so, thats just my experience. read the manual and see what it says for your year...but i'd think it would be the same.

Does this work for Monsoon units from an 01? Over on gagt, someone said he thought that Monsoon systems didnt have theftlock codes but the vin programmed into them which the dealer would have to reprogram?

That is correct. There is no user-enterable codes with the 2001-2005 Monsoon systems. The stereo is programmed with the vehicle's VIN which it compares with the VIN in the BCM. Only the dealer can update this for you.

It is really frustrating when people hand out blatantly false information. :(

Resurrecting the dead here...

I need to buy a Monsoon deck to replace in my car for selling it, just wondering.. Do I just buy a deck from an 01 car say (monsoon deck) and then take it to the dealer and ask them to program it with my VIN?

Ok, I imagine this will be pricey?

Wish I would have kept my old one!

I suppose that would depend on your dealer. It's all labour cost. Try calling ahead to a few places to get estimates first. :)
