A friend of mine has a Kenwood Excelon fold out screen with nav in his Subaru STI. I did the install and just played around with it then, but it seems likea pretty nice head unit. Kenwoods a good company, I haven't ealt with their stuff in a while , but I'd imagine its still as good as it been if not better.

I actually just installed this unit in my car last week. I am really liking it so far. I have the external Siruis tuner so I can control my satalite radio from the touch screen. I have the navigation system on order.

The only thing I don't like is theres a maroon colour border around the screen when you are on the screens that control the radio. I would like to change the colour but haven't found out how yet.

If my research was good, there are 3 different models available with the 617 being the base model. The top model is the KVT-817dvd.

I've been running the 617 since last August and have yet to have any problems with it. It is the low end model in the lineup, but for the price I really don't think you can go wrong. It does have its limits as mentioned but you get what you pay for. There is no way to change any of the backgrounds or wallpapers (as far as I know) and the control options aren't quite as advanced on the higher end units (a friend of mine runs the next model up and it's only slightly different). The install was pretty basic and the ability to ground the parking break to enable play while driving is great (though not legal). Like I said though, great unit for the money, check the pictures in my sig and on my cardomain (http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2249461) if you're interested and let me know if you have any other questions.

I was actually the first one to review the 617 on the Crutchfield site so you can read my full thoughts at the time in the Reviews section if you scroll all the way down.
