ok so i have the 2.4 se as you all know, and i was wondering if i could use have the pacesetter header run into a 2'' pipe to the cat, then to a y pipe splitting it into 2- 2 and 1/4 or 2 1/2 inch pipes flowing into either dynomax or magnaflow mufflers.my car is unmodded and i dont know alot about 4 cylinders or grand ams (i used to own a 97 4.6L Cougar)i was wondering what size the stock pipes are and if the have a resonator and where its located at if it has one,and if the dual exhaust plan wouldnt provide much of a gain or would i gain more just from a single exhaust

heres my suggestion... I had a GA with the 3400v6.

I ran 2.5" exhaust from catback, using a SLP muffler out of a Grand Prix GTX (junkyard find). I took it to a local shop that bent up their own systems, and it cost me about $120 total. You dont want crush bent at all! Thats when the inner radius of the bend is all bumpy and that kills flow. Pressure bent has a smooth inner radius, although pipe diameter goes down a little. This is best for the dollar for an engine with mild mods, such as a cold air intake and stuff. For best results, but most expensive, is mandrel bent. This keeps pipe diameter consistent throughout the turn, providing maximum flow, and is nececessary in racing applications to make maximum power.

For the 2.4, I would run 2.25" pipes, with a magnaflow muffler finished off with a nice, modest size tip. Flowmaster sounds like butt on four cylinders, and fart cans look ricey. The stock stuff has a resonator, it looks like a catalytic converter and the cat looks like a muffler from the bottom, but if you look at it parallel to the exhaust, it looks rectangular and is closer to the manifolds.
