They dont make turbo manifolds for a grand am, So obvisley you would have to go through the custom route

*sighs* damn. i guess so, its very time consuming im sure. if thats what i have to do. then still, can some give me an idea at wht its supossed to look like? and how i would possibly get started ( i know the basics, lol). still willing to buy one too. if someone else has the time to make one.

I used the stock manifolds (except the rear, i used a stock 3100 manifold with the downpipe/egr connections chopped off and welded shut), bought prebent piping, and welded my own custom turbo crossover/manifold using the stock crossover's flanges. Overall cost was less than $50.

most of the pics of my setup are in there
tejohnson has a very good turbo setup and you can find tons of pics of it here (phase 2 and 3):

Also keep in mind that you'll not only have to make your own custom crossover or manifold to accept the turbo but you'll need to also make a custom downpipe off of the turbo. For that you'll definitely need to do some rearranging of some of the components under the hood (I had to completely remove the egr and its connections, relocate the coil pack, and had to reroute the heater core and throttle body coolant hoses).

MP Racing will be making/offering these sometime next year... most likely end of summer begining of spring (maybe sooner)

Do you enjoy having a turbo grand am? Is it worth it? and how many pounds of boost are you runnin?

I personally love it, but I've basically turned it into a high maintenance car (although it does have 100k on it). When I first found out that it was faster than a modded mustang GT (on a closed race legal road of course) was when it was all worth it, especially the looks on their faces as I started passing them. You also need to really baby it with the extra power ie. no flooring it around corners (which you shouldn't do anyways), no burn outs (except maybe at the track), and stuff like that that could hurt the really hurt the tranny.
Running around 8 psi btw.

well thats good to know. and 8 psi isn't that bad for a GA. lol, one of my friends has a MazdA Speed Protege runnin 9 psi. and my other friend has a Dodge NEON srt-4 runnin 18 psi.
also, is there any tuts with pics on here on how to take the upper manifold off so i could actually paint it a lil better? because the whole tappin it off thing aint workin.

8 psi can be bad. The compression ratio of a stock GA is only so friendly to boost. It's all in the tune though really.

Steps 6 through 14 should do the trick.

angry, about how long did it take you to remove the UIM?

First time through it took around 30 min or so, now it only takes 10 min or less :D
and it's probably not a good idea to run 10-12 psi unless you modify your bottom end, heads, and some other things to boot.

Says the guy who hit 10 psi several times the other day.
I haven't read much about it being a bad idea on a stock bottom end or anything. Nor have I read of anyone who has tried it. I'm pretty sure the 3400's I know of boosting that much have built motors. However, when cylinder pressures get higher and higher, tuning gets more difficult and so does the likelyhood of blowing something up. So, I say raise boost until it explodes and report back to us. :)
