Soon after I get this GA, I'm going to be replacing the stock radio in the car. The thing I'm wondering is that I've seen comments about taking that unit out disables the car or something to that effect? It has Anti-Theft written all over it.
The other thing, once I get this monster unit out, where can I get some pre-cut plastic plates? The HUs one gets from Best Buy or Walmart or wherever are only a few inches tall, whereas the HU in the car is like a foot (Bit exadurated).

What model year Grand Am are you looking at?

If the GA is 01-up you will need a module that keeps the door chimes. Unless you just mean the anti-theft lock, on 01-up you need to go to a dealer to get the radio unlocked for a different car and 00-down you need the unlock code (if activated). Any audio store will have the adapter plates you need, just have them look up your car and find the right one, not all are kept out front. 01-up has 2-din radios, 00-down has 1.5 (I think it's 95-00? not entirely sure).
But yeah, the year really helps us to help you.

The module is the wiring harness. If you don't want the chimes you can use the cheap harness but you will have to wire your own 12v switched power source.

Its a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am GT. Power everything other than seats. Sun roof (Which I learned not to open the roof after a fresh rain).

GMOS-1 (onstar) or GMRC-1 harness then if you want to retain chimes, I think it's the 00-down that will work for 01-up where you find your own power.
