OK, I know what some of you are going to say. Search. I did and I didn't really get a direct answer. I started putting in my system into my 2001 Grand Am GT yesterday, but I didn't do anything today. (A little busy) I put the a new head unit in, and front speakers in the door. I still need to put in the rear speakers, and run the power wire.

Here is where my question is. Where through the firewall should I go through?

I'm thinking of cutting a little hole in that big ass rubber boot that comes from the steering wheel to squeeze the 4 GA wire though. Did anybody else cut through here? Where does it come out of on the other side? (This is the second important question.) Are there any risks cutting through this large rubber boot?

I will hopefully be finishing up running the wire and putting in the rear speakers tomorrow. So any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Yeah, I went through the rubber seal. Kinda just stabbed at it just enough so the wire could go through.

Where did it come out from on the other side, in the engine?

i have 0 ga and i drilled my own hole through the firewall and then siliconed around the wire. If it's the rubber boot I think you are talking about I wouldnt go that way because I believe there are u joints of some sort there which could rub against your wire which could wear down the insulation and then obviously you have a problem when your 12 volt positive is being grounded out (of course it should blow that huge ass fuse).

I also have 0 gauge and 8 gauge ran into holes that I drilled.

OK. I finished up most of the install today. I ran the power wire through one of the hole already in the firewall. (I think the gray one.) It took about a half an hour to fish it with a coat hanger on the other side. I got everything hooked up today, except my main power wire. I bought the wrong terminal. I got the long terminal instead of the short one. So I'm going to buy that tomorrow, and then everything will be done.

If you used the gray one and had to fish for it you made it a little harder than it had to be. I used the gray grommet, cut a small X into it, ran the wire thru, and pulled the fuse box forward, made it super easy to run the wire. The stock terminal looks longer than the short one, until you have it completely pulled from the terminal boot, I had the same problem.
