Hey I just got a Jensen multimedia unit, say what you would like about Jensen but I got a good deal, anyways I wouldnt have bought it unless it had subwoofer output and everywhere the specs I read said it did. Well it does, it has one. There is a single RCA for sub out? I have only delt with a set of two or none before, how do I go about connecting this to my amp? Do I just get a splitter and run the same signal to L and R? Thanks guy, quick replys appreciated, just wiring the GMRC-01 module right now, hope to get it in tonight.

If your sub amp is a Mono-block just hood it into one.

Yeah thats the thing right now I am using a 2 channel. Its older too and there is 2 whites and 2reds. Will it affect it much if I split the signal to both left and right?

it will be a weaker signal. But ya i believe you would be best to split it then. Im no audio guru, so someone else may chime in and tell you otherwise

no need to split them....if ur hooking up a sub there is no left or right it is a "mono" channel :)
and are do the 2red and 2white say input and output?? put them in the input...output if ur hooking up multiple amps..

I think it may be a 4 channel input amp he has. Not a mono block.

im not sure if he is trying to wire up a set of components, subs, or what

It says subs in his first post. But he does not have a mono block amp.

I have 1 sub, running on the 2 channel amp, there is a red and white rca input for the amp and i have the sub running off both channels, 1 throwing - and one +

ok...thats what i thought...If there is only one sub there is no left or right..."mono" meaning ur only running one channel...and you say it is bridged.. so just connect the rca into the input set on ur amp..

Hmm ok, makes sense, so the left and right is only of use when you have 2 subs, so that sound is sent to the left and right when it needs, if there is 1 sub it doesnt matter if the bass is on the left orr the right, in the music, cause there is just one? Sound right? Thanks.

You only ever need 1 signal from your HU to your subs. Subs aren't directional or left or right regardless of how many. If you had two subs you'd still only have one feed since you're not going to have your subs hitting at different times.

Use a Y-splitter.

Use a Y-splitter.
:agree: If your only going to split it off once you should have a problem.

You need a Y-Splitter specifically a male end with two female ends.

Yes. And what an ideal situation that is. :brows:

^ :agree:
anyway in my green car i split them with a Y.
if you only ned one, why do amps have 2 RCA channels then?

i dont think it matters for mono block amps. i only have one going to mine. makes no difference if i split it.

Since this post describes almost the same situation I'm in, I'll post here. :D
I just installed a head unit that only has one sub out RCA. My other HU had two, so I had ran a 2 wire RCA for it. My sub amp (mono) has two RCA's in. Now, I put a Y adapter at the head unit and left the two plugged in at the amp. But, I get no sound from it. Do I have to get another Y adapter for the two RCA on the wire and then attach it to just one RCA plug on the amp? :???:
UPDATE: It must be the head unit. I hooked up the RCA's from the back speakers and it worked. The sub connector on the head unit must be bad, maybe?

What you have done is correct. So yes - it must be a problem with the headunit. Might want to check the manual - sometimes you have to enable or set the sub out level before it will work.
