Ok, so I have been seriously looking for headers for my 2.4L Grand Am SE. I have found a set on ebay that said and done will cost $240 to get to my door. Here is the set I was looking at, any opinions would be great as I dont know too much about pricing etc. on these things. If you know a better place to get them cheaper let me know!

Picture isnt a 2.4 header like Ralph said but it seems they use the same pic for every header there selling. Might want to look into that more

Yeah thats just the stock picture they use for all their headers, these are the headers that will fit onto the Grand Am...but is this a reasonable price? And is there a big difference in performance with the pacesetter headers? Thx

Price is ok, but I didnt know they made a header for our engine that was a direct fit, I had to have my obx header cut and welded to make it past the firewall

Well I hope it is a direct fit, because I dont want to have to go to that trouble for this, I was hoping to do the install and everything myself. Does anyone know for sure if this will be a bolt on install? Or will it consist of more? I know these are made directly for my model, just need some more information and if it is an easy install then they are as good as bought. Please respond, thanks!

99+ it is a direct fit. If you have the rest of your exaust already done then it will make a decent difference. On the LD9 the exaust manifold is very restrictive

Yeah, well I dont have my exhaust done yet but I'm going to start with the headers and I have a buddy who owns a welding shop and has done a few exhaust jobs so it wont be too long after that I get my exhaust done. I basically just need to know if theres anything I can screw up by basically straight piping to a high flo converter, then to a flowmaster muffler. Is there anything I can screw up sensor-wise? Thanks.

just do it all at once. Most of the quad 4 and twin cam guys don't go with a flowmaster since that type of muffler doesn't sound good with this engine.

Ok, so what muffler do you suggest? And what are all the parts I need for a whole exhaust job? Piping, "Bing" or something I heard, Converter, Muffler...?

Piping, unless your cat is bad it doesn't need to be replaced it has been said are cats have fairly good flow. The muffler I'd say look around. Do you want single or dual exaust? Myself sad to admit i have a fart can but im looking at changing to an F-body magnaflow ive never heard them on a twin cam though.

I'm thinking I will go with Magnaflow, most likely just look around and see what I can get for a decent price. Fart can? haha nice! I definitely want dual exhaust, so pending that it will probably cost a little more. I want to upgrade my piping though to 3" so will I still be able to use the old converter? I got a few things to take care of first as far as appearance goes. But the exhaust is the second speed mod I'm doing and will be done before summer fully from headers to muffler. I'm going to dyno it after too to make sure it wasnt all a waste

When you get the 3" piping i dont think it will directly go from the cat, but i dont know...
If you get the headers and 3" piping you will get 20+ hp from that, give or take a few.

3" is a little much if your not going turbo don't bother. I have 2.5" and it was a tight squeeze

Cutting and welding is only required on the 96-98 chassis due to firewall/steering rack clearance.

x2. Flowmaster sounds awful on a 2.4. I would recommend Dynomax (superturbo) or Borla.

Whoa... 3" is way too big... the car will be a real dog off the line / in city traffic. No larger than 2.5" and personally I'd use 2.25" on an automatic 2.4.

I know what you are saying and that it was a simple mistake but just because I like to keep things straight and organized, PFYC is not one of our supporters ... I have tried for years to have PFYC give back to "this side" ;) :) of the community but I haven't been lucky enough for them to reply

Alright thanks for the great reply, pretty much all the information I need...2.5" definitely should be more than enough. Thanks again! And yes its an automatic.
