Ok, I search the forums for my answer but I'm still a bit confused.

The Wal-Mart near me has the 34/78 Red Top's on sale for $148.98. I wanted to pick it up but the battery compatability thing said that you cannot use the 34/78's in 2004 Grand Am GT's. Is this true?

I checked with my Club Prez and he said that to make it fit all I had to do was trim the battery holder. I'd like to know by the end of the night as the sale ends soon.

This is the Red Top with the Terminals at the top of the battery. Also, if I have the SC/T Hood will it still fit?

I think i have the same one and to have it fit in the stock battery tray youd have to trim the sides.
Also it does fit with an sc/t hood

I couldn't find whether it would fit my 97 either. If it's the same tray as your gen, you can measure all you want, and you'll convince yourself that it won't fit.

I also got in on this deal at Wal-Mart, chisled a side off my battery tray, fiddled around with the battery for a good 5 minutes till it finally dropped into place, and you're all set.

Not sure if you noticed, but these batteries have terminals on both the top and sides, you'll need to use the side terminals, and make sure you leave the covers on the top posts, mine SLIGHTLY rub into the under-foamy stuff on the hood, just enough to move the dirt off the foam, you wouldn't want a short.

That Battery will fit fine. I have the same one in my car and I have top post terminals connected without any rubbing.. I did cut the front of the battery tray slightly to make it fit securely.
