I don't see it happening again soon. Personally, I think its more likely to see a Zeta based Firebird/Trans Am since GM has normally had the Pontiac and Chevy as sisters for the F-Bodies up until their discontinuation.

they were a nice straight line car.... they need some work if you are taking them around turns. and if its a manual, and this goes for the G8 as well, i hope for heck the darned shifter doesnt wiggle around like it did in the gto with 20,*** miles on it i test drove back in october....

The GTO will not be back. You could always goto Australia and pick up a Holden Monaro, or Britain and get a Vauxhall Monaro.

The Monaro (Both Holden and Vauxhall Variants) is no longer in production, and neither is the GTO or the Lumina SS from the European market. That entire chassis is done.

correction, the lumina SS is on the same frame as the G8 now, so its still around.

The old (dead) design was quite stunning... But it probably wont be back, maybe they will do a spoof of the new Camaro?

Challenger FTW!!!

Looking and researching in Google I believe they may bring it back in 09' or 10' as a zeta but they will still be the holden chassis but make it alot more aggressive looking!

A lot of people didn't care for the GTO, but I like 'em a bit.

Rumor has it the Trans Am will be back a year after the new Camaro comes out. Who knows though.

The main reason why they were not well recieved was the fact that they went against the grain of the "Retro" styling of resurrected muscle cars. Ford retro styled the mustang, but people flipped out when they saw that pontiac didn't do the same for the GTO resurrection.

Another thing that killed the popularity was that it was a rebadged Holden. Many screamed out heresy since the new GTO was an Aussie based car, not American. What many failed to realize was that the new GTO was continuing on the original idea for the first GTO: Drop a large and powerful engine in a passenger vehicle.

I both like and dislike the Retro/Modern styling of musclecars today. On the one hand it is very modern, but then it is styled of what the manufacturer assumes is the most liked years. Like the GTO, the G8 isn't really in that category of styling.

Friend of mine said he thinks the GTO wasn't "stand-out" enough from other Pontiacs of the line. Take the late Firebirds/TA's. They surely stood out against most any vehicle, let alone other Pontiacs. The GTO just didn't stand out.

The person who made that car could of at least used the correct car.

That pic is all sorts of wrong.

First off that pic is of a 2004 Vauxhall vxR Monaro. Not a Holden, Not a Pontiac.

On top of it, it's LS1 powered, i.e. 5.7l

That pic is all sorts of fail right there.

if the Coupe 60 goes into production over seas, it will be probably put into production as the G8 Coupe in the states.

Well... if you stuck a GTO side by side with a Tempest of the same year and you took off the GTO badging, it didn't stand out much either.

CAFE is the name of the murderer. The NHTSA regualtes the standards of it, and the EPA measures the economy numbers. The whole CAFE standards is a result of Congress (Opposite of Progress  ).

Im a regular on LS1tech and a member that works at GM has hinted that Pontiac has another RWD car that is going to be announced on the 18th.

The G8 GXP will be on the streets late this year while the G8 sport truck will follow in Fall 2009.

And our brand fertility is not yet complete.... You’ll want to check back at 10 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18 for yet another announcement from the delivery room.

:thumb:

I have to wonder.... what's the next announcement on the 18th?
It's apparently another version of the G8.... perhaps... A COUPE!???!?

I guess we'll find out soon. :)

A G8 Coupe is the best hope. The GTO nameplate is shelved.
