Ok is the 2.3 with 120hp a Sohc? Are all the 2.3 HO marked with highoutput on the engines? Thanks for any info

yes, and yes (atleast they came that way from the factory) also a 8 digit of A or "Vin A" will tell you its an HO car plus an LGO RPO code will tell you too.

Its actully more like this: (power decreases after 1992 on all quads)
SOHC 2.3L Quad 4 (L40) = 120hp-115hp
LO 2.3L Quad 4 (LD2) = 160hp-150hp
HO 2.3L Quad 4 (LG0) = 180hp-170hp
W41 2.3L Quad 4 (W41) = 190hp-180hp

Well technically you're both wrong about one thing, the SOHC is not a Quad4, just a Quad.

and the W41 never hits 180 it goes down to 185 in 93

No, mid '93 they changed the head and it dropped 5 more HP.

where did that spec come from I have never seen that and own a 93 W41 engine. According to GM the head did not change to 456 until 94. In 93 it lost the 086 head which dropped it to 185hp.

I think he is right. While lots of revisions are year specific, it seems that the head castings are not.

Don't forget exhaust manifolds... bet that has something to do with the ratings too.

Which head casting do you have? Then you'll know.

The 753 was mid '93 and the 456 was mid '94. I've seen 93s with 086s and my '94 came with a 753 or 303.
