I got them both at the same time ~18 months ago. The chamois is worn out ( won't hold any water ) the absorber is still doing the job.
How long does this synthetic last ?
any long term problems using the absorber full time ?

i had the absorber. didnt like it much. I think if you ever accidently leave it in the sun, it gets ruined. the foam starts to peal.

I love my Absorber. Just have to wash it out every few times you use it and keep it in its tube to keep it moist and it works great for me.

I have the Absorber and I think it's great. Just keep it clean and store it in its tube moist as stated above and it should last for quite some time.

For myself, I have some old soft terry-cloth towels I use to dry off my car. They work better than any "shammy" I've ever used.

the 100% real chamoises are crap!
I got one from an AC Delco store last yeah, and it works excellent.. couldn't ask for a better one IMO. should last a long time. I guess a few years...

I have/used the absorber... it SUCKS.
It leaves behind so much micro beads...
If you want something better than that and chamois, get yourself a big waffle weave microfiber towel. You can find em at www.pakshak.com
With one of the big towels, you can dry your entire car quickly, and i'm not kiddin!
Microfibers are excellent when wiping windows too... no streaking left behind. Oh yeah, they're also best for dusting/cleaning the interior too! The California Duster is basically microfiber towel attached to a rod.
so um... basically, get microfiber towels :)

I've never tried the microfibre towels, but when I had my sunfire (which was black, I hear ya on the mircobeading left behind from the absorber) I'd use water to dry the car... the wax/polish would make the water bead, and then I'd use a garden hose to sheet off the beads...just make sure the front of the car is tilted up slightly.. if you've waxed and polished it, the water should roll right off.
Now that I have a silver GA I use the absorber but I wring it out after 2-3 swipes.
BTW:
regardless if you use a chamois or the absorber, the best way to get the water off fast is to lay it out like a sheet over the panel and draw it towards yourself (like you were trying to yank out the table cloth from under a set of dishes... just do it slower on your car ;) )

I've had 2 absorbers for quiet some time now. I started with one but my sister left it out to dry so I use that one to dry my wheels. The second one I bought after the first one dried and I have never let it dry. I keep it in the tube after I use it. I love it. I can clean the heck out of my windows so they don't need to be wiped down with glass cleaner.

I still have my synthetic chamois from Car Brite (when I used to detail professionally) for 7 years. It's still in excellent condition. :)
