I want to do a custom cat-back this spring, and I was wondering if anybody knows how they sound? I heard a clip on Youtube of the Vortex in a 3.4 Subaru and it sounded mean, but it also sounded kinda like the car was running boost. It's the Vortex 88111, 2.5 I/2.5 O transverse muffler. http://www.cherrybomb.com/vortex-mufflers.html

Just trying to keep it a little different, I'm sure it'll sound fine since alot of muffler styles work with the 3.4, I was checkin to see if anybody had experience with it.

I think as long as there arent 20 grand ams driving around your area with it, you should get something you know will make you happy.

in my opinion, cherry bomb would do you good. not to say you would love the sound but only because they do give the 3400 a good sound. it is kinda hard to make a 3400 sound too bad unless you are a ... very smart person(not really) and think it is a smart idea to put 3 inch pipes on your car and that will be a good idea. and nno you dont have to spend all the money on a flowmaster nor magnaflow nor borla to get good sound. so go for the cherry bomb if thats what you want.

Actually the cherry bomb would cost more than the Flowmaster, $110 compared to $80-90.

ok, so IF that is one point you want to point out that i was making, how about the fact that the guy should put the exhaust on his car that he wants. and fyi, what you can get a product for can be a different price for what someone else can get it for. i.e. i can have a brand new body kit for my car that is about 2 miles away from where i am sitting right now that would cost you over $1000 and i could buy it and put it on my car for $200. so i dont think there is much more to this topis UNLESS someone can give this guy advise/sound clip of what that exhaust would sound like

If you can do that, then why don't you buy it. That's more off topic than my post. I've been talking to Blackhawk for a while now on here and aim and talked about this many times, and I was giving my opinion. So chill out, I'm just trying to help him out.

Cherry bomb or vortex?

the only real personal exp i have had with a cherry bomb was the glass pack and that was for my ranger. only did it cause i had a gift card and nothing to buy so i got in and threw it on while waiting for the dynamax cat-back to arrive. i must say it made the truck louder, all your doing is burning out the fiber glass inside and then it is BASICALLY(and yes i know not exactly) like running straight pipe. thinking about doing the same to my GAGT, if you look at the pic to your right, i have a straight pipe set up right now that exits in front of the rear wheel on the drivers side. and due to lack of space, i am going to put a tubular(dont really know who yet) muffler. but sounds beast straight piped.

Yeah, I've heard alot of 80s and they sound good, I'm guessing the Vortex would too, since almost anything will sound good on the 3x00s. I'm just trying to think outside of the box, have a slightly different sound.
tj, not sure if you were just referring to the brand or if you thought I was debating between the Vortex or the original Cherry Bomb. I was asking Jimmy which part of the name he wouldn't buy it based off.

-2, don't get a flowcrapper. Had one on my grand am and it sounded horrendous. After a month, I couldn't stand the thing anymore and ripped it off and put a stock one back one. Flowmaster is known for that horrible drone off idle and no performance gains.

You had flowmaster on what? Your entitled to your opinion, but you shouldn't bash something that bad. I have flowmaster 80 series on mine and it is not horrendous. I get lots of compliments on it. 80 series on a 3400 is bad ass.

I had the flowmaster on the grand am. Maybe its me, but its just too raspy in higher rpms, and when I'm cruising there is a loud droning almost like a 4 cyl. I haven't heard to many v6's sounding good with a exhaust, they just dont have that firing order v8's have.

my .02 cents

u will have a drone if u have the resonator still on the car take that off and its sound a whole lot better
