I am just curious. A guy I know bought a stereo system for his girlfriend for Christmas for her Sunfire. The Monsoon wiring harness cost him $155 bucks! I think for my GrandAm (not a Monsoon) it was $25. What is so damn special that it costs $130 more dollars?

It may not be that it's monsoon, but that it has the setup that 01-up Grand Ams have, where the radio is tied to the VIN and the chimes run thru the system. If you use the cheap harness with these systems you have to fine your own switched power source and you will lose all chimes.

any if the newer GM vehicles need what i was told is call a GMAC wiring harness, you can pick this up at best buy for right around 125 dollars roughly. like blackhawk said, everything is tied together aswell as wired together. (this includes your air bags, chimes, ect) you can do without it but i strongly reccomeng AGAINST this.
Hope this helps answer your questions.

I think it's either the GMRC or the GMOS that you're talking about. The GMOS replaced the GMRC and is compatible with On-Star equipped cars.

Well is there something technical about this different harness that makes it cost so damn much? Or is it still just a plug with a bunch of wires in it...

Thanks for the answers.

It has the chime module in it, it retains the chimes and makes it so you don't have to find a new power source.

the module, keeps your chimes, and onstar, and rap

otherwise a regular harness can be used but you ahve to find your own ignition power source

some cars need this because of bose/premium systems though and there is no way around it. many new gm's are using a digital amp
