Hey there guys I have a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am Se 2, and I was wondering if anyone had notice the placement of the "Pontiac" badge on the trunk lid. I've seen tons of Pontiacs and all of the trunk badges are placed below the trunk lock. However mine is placed from factory, since there has been no alteration to the trunk lid, above the lock, or key hole. The only thing that i can think of is that, the badging placement is to define the stock "Se," from the "Se1" and "Se2". Just an idea, but if anyone has the answer I would love to know it, might ease my mined a little...
Thanks,
Tiger

Might be the "UAW Weekend Edition" trim?
Ive heard that UAW-built domestic cars built on Mondays and after 3-day weekends tend to have more build mistakes than vehicles built during the week. See what day your car was built , and you might have your answer .

... maybe the trunk was repaired for some reason and it was put on by someone who didn't know ... anything is possible I suppose :)

I doubt very much it came from the factory that way, the robots rarely make that kind of mistake. There isn't supposed to be a 'Pontiac' badge on the trunk lid at all, or anywhere else on the car for that matter. Instead, the word 'Pontiac' is indented into the bumper cover and on the plate filler panel on the front. The Pontiac Arrowhead insignia should be between the split grill on the front bumper cover (Missing on aftermarket bumper covers).
On the SE models, there is a 'Grand Am' badge centered under the lock. The GT models have a 'Grand Am GT' badge offset to the right under the lock on the trunklid. There are also 'Grand Am SE' or 'Grand Am GT' badges near the leading edge on the doors for 1999-2001 models. There is no distinction with regards to badging between SE, SE1 and SE2, or GT and GT1.

Oh, and just FYI, with the 4-cylinder engine you do not have an SE2. :)

Oh, and so you know, since you stated that an Se 2 is not equiped with a I-4 2.4L engine it is actually an option, from the factory it is a standard 3.4L V-6 170 HP with the option for the 2.4L I-4 150 HP, which mine is equiped with. As for the logo on the trunk lid it is a Grand Am badge not a Pontiac badge, my sitake although there has been no alteration or replacement of the trunk lid or badging. That is why I was wondering if there was a edition of model difference since there are so fewer Se 2's around... Se 2's being additionally equiped with 16" rims instead of 15's, audio controls on the steering wheel, leather gear shift, sport seats, dual auxilary mirrors, reading lights, Seatback Storage, 6 performance speakers, and a leather wrapped steering wheel, those would be what make a Grand Am an Se 2.

Sorry, but no. You would have a loaded up SE or SE1. All the SE1 and SE2 'models' are is option packages. Sorry, but you've been misinformed. There is just no such thing as an SE2 with the 2.4L. But really, what difference does it make if the options were put on separately or as part of a package? It's still a damn nice car.

Actually, if you are to contact Pontiac direct they will agree with me and so does carsdirect, the listed is the definition of the SE2 and DOES come with the optional I-4 2.4L engine, it is an option, not just a loaded up SE or SE1 because none of which are loaded or even come with the option of an upgraded rim size, 6 Factory Speakers, and Factory Steering wheel controls, unless it is a GT, option for 16" rim, which mine is not. You might want to look more into your car next time.

Whoa tiger,check the stickies.
Read the .PDF file in "grand am option lists',year 2000 ( virtually identical to 1999) Scroll to page 4 .
Says for all the world, the 2.4L engine is NOT AVAILABLE on the SE2.
Pontiac direct would either tell you the same thing or not at all, as they might not keep trim info about a discontunued car they haven't built in 8 years.
Case closed.

OK, first thing, even if the SE2 did come with the I4, it would be called the BASE or STANDARD engine and not the OPTIONAL ;) :D ... second, as far as I remember and as Shawn mentioned, the "SE2 Code" was offered as package with a predetermined number of options which included the V6 ... however, to be fair, I looked at your Car Domain page and it appears you have the head rests "with holes" so who knows ... what is your VIN?

I think you better take a long hard look at who you're talking to, pal. I've been running this website since before you had your license. I don't give a rat's ass what carsdirect says, they're WRONG, and so are you. WTF are you trying to prove, anyway? Why do you care so much if you have a loaded up SE or an SE2? Does the little '2' really mean that much to you?

The 'uplevel' interior was also an available option for the SE in 1999, you didn't need to get it through the SE2 or GT packages.

I have never seen a SE interior, other than a SE2, using head rests with holes  ... can't remember where I read it in but somewhere, it says (at least I think it did ) the SE2 interior was not 'completely' the same as the SE or SE1 ... of course, I'm not infallible ;) ... honestly, who cares, I already know my car is a SE2  :)
