Hey, I have an 02 Grand Am 3.4L V6. Recently getting on the highway and I noticed a "chugging" around 50 mph. After I gave it a little more gas everything is fine. It seems to be chugging everytime now. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Masse

'02, 6-yrs old; about 75k miles/120,000 kms?
There are numerous things that can cause this symptom (though I too am confused as to what you mean by 'chugging').
So please answer some questions to help us narrow this down.
Are there any other symptoms, like hard-to-start or poor gas consumption?
Is the SES light 'on'?
Does this ONLY happen at 50mph highway, or at lower speeds, or accelerating, or at higher speeds?
What region of the US or Canada are you located (relative to climate)?

Sounds like a issue I'm currently having. Thanks to the freezing rain, a tuneup wasn't possible for me to do lol.

Thanks for the replies. I am not sure how to describe it but here it goes. At around 1800 rpms, the engine seems to studder. The rpms will fluctuate between 1700 and 1900 approx. I guess a different word could be stutter to describe this. The rpms go up and down consistently until I give it more gas. Hope this makes more sense. The SES light is on. I had it hooked up to the code reader and the mechanic said there was no codes so it must be something to do with emissions. I live by Detroit, Mi. No problem starting and gas consumption seem to be the same. It seems lately to only be around 50mph.
Thanks,

Could it be the injectors? They do have a tendency to get clogged.....

Wait, SES is on but the mechanic says there are no codes? Are they hiding perhaps? Maybe in the Transmission control module? Find a mechanic that can use a scanner properly before you go any further.
