Im trying to revive these meets that died out about a year ago. Id love to see some nice GAs there, if theres any interest still in so cal:
Domestic muscle car meets will be held at the sonics parking lot in Fullerton on lemon just North of the 91, and west of the 57 freeway. the meets will be the second saturday of every month at 8pm, starting January 12.

These meets are not to doing burn outs, and donuts. actions like that will get up kicked out and can injure innocent on lookers. bring any domestic muscle car (I'll leave interpretation of that term up to you) and a car enthusiasts attitude to keep the atmosphere friendly.

Sonics Drive in

sure you can.

i didnt invite any chrysler peeps so im sure you wont get much love, but go for it. these meets used to be a kick, people with TT GTOs, and S/Ced c6 and some crazy ass fords came. plus, the grand national crew plans to attend, and they always bring excitement.

I have a video of a brand new Z06 vette with a healthy dose of nitrous getting spanked hard by a certain Trevtec Motorsports Evolution. Buslengths dave BUSLENGTHS! Scrap that f-body and join the dark side!

hell no, theres more to a car than 1/4 mile runs. with my new rims and tires ill be able to run road courses, then swap out my rear wheels (with DRs) and run in the 12s, then go back to my road racing tires for drift events. on top of that, i can drive the car home on my road racing tires.

i do things for a reason, i dont believe in purpose built cars, a car is meant to be driven (said with a 7 year old car with 15k miles)

a car is meant to be driven... but there is more than one way to drive. Your car isn't setup for drifting though, nowhere near it. It does have some suspension work but it's more suited to cone dodging.

haha, its better than a vette, or it will be once my vette wheels are on ill be able to do my vette brake conversion, and then come the koni shocks.

oh, and on the vette wheels (getting them in 3 days) im putting on falken azenis RT615 tires, but two stockers are being saved for MT DRs.

dont forget about all of my suspension work that was already done to the car. and if it turns out that its not fast enough yet, then on come the LS6 parts.

so you guys say its not as good as a vette, lemme see...LS1 engine *with LS6 manifold*(same engine and hp as C5), full suspension work (better than C5 suspension), C5 wheels (coming friday 12/14), C5 brakes (coming early 2008) i dont see where the difference is. yes it weighs more, but the intake and exhaust will eliminate that difference, no reason why my car isnt comparable to a stock C5, but how many 15k mile camaros do you see versus C5s? id guess not many. plus my insurance is about half of that for a C5.

Sorry Dave. Your 'Maro is by no stretch cooler than a Vette.
cooler? i didnt say cooler. i mean hell, nothings as cool as a 99+ grand am now is it? well maybe a carbon fiber one that runs in the 15s, or how about a dismantled 12 second car that couldnt even stay together long enough to get 3 full runs out of it?

Sorry Dave you are incorrect in saying 3 full runs. I have done a whole nights worth of runs in the car many times, but when you're a pioneer in something you tend to break shit along the way instead of going the easy route.

hey alan, i cant wait to see ya and catch up on old times.

same here. been out of the mix for a while but thats mainly due to several stupid mistakes ive made in the last 2 years. we'll catch up

on another note, ive always admired how you own 2 cars at once. you owned an SE/GT at the same time, and now you own a LS1/C5 at the same time :D. How do you manage to always do that? and yes, your ins is probably remarkably lower than a C5 assuming that you have no previous bad record.

keep in mind that what makes the C5/C6 and Z models so stout, is their gearing and aerodynamics/weight ratio ;). So your gonna have to make more HP than a stock C5 to be *comparable* so to speak. nice car though.

I gotta agree with dave on this though......go big (V8) or go home.......think about it, you wouldnt bring a 4" wang to a porno would you???

man. Gotta relax on the juice dave. think on the bright side. at least your car cant be possibly as hated as mine is ;). Some of that is mainly jealousy though when I can take on ramps like the 91e to 57n at around 80MPH without barking the tires ;) hit a nice ramp or corner though, and all that pissing contest HP shit goes right out the window

a lil testy dave?

your comment belongs on the short bus. you're a special person dave.

and just because vette parts can fit on your car still doesn't mean you're going to be better than a vette right off the bat. Slapping on suspension bits is nice and all, but getting the setup tuned for what you want it to do is a whole different matter. It's just like having all these awesome trick items for an engine, but you still have to make them work together cohesively. I'm sure you'll throw in the but its all GMS stuff! ............Dave, it's cool, drink some starbucks or whatever people from cali need, when they gotta chill out, and realize you're on a grand am forum hyping up an f-body, and flossin' it like crazy.

If you would like, I can setup a few things with another fbody, or an Evo or a Scooby, or hell even a Vette just so things can be "even".

rob, im chill, im drinkin a pina colada, with about 50% run in it, so im really chill.

you automatically assume that stuss wont work together. i didnt choose what i have on my car, it was put together by JR granatelli himself. remember, its a Granatelli Camaro. if you wnna discuss with him why he did what feel free, but i can tell you that my car handles way better than my grand am did, with the exception that if i floor it around a turn i tend to face in all kinds of directions other than what i desired, but thats torque and RWD for ya.

Im not saying that ill be better than a C5 with C5 parts, what im saying is that you guys started off by comparing it to a corvette saying its not a corvette...well duh! and go further to say that its as cool as an 80s vette, not even knowing that an 80s corvette is a C4. i just dont understand why you think you know so much about camaros that you can talk ish about it all day and expect me to say, yea youre right. you are wrong, done deal.

Soo I should be going next week, wow come on guys seriously did anyone have to bust on daves camaro, ummm well yeah it is easily cooler than a c5 or any vette mainly due to its history, that car is going to be worth more than any one of your homes in about 30 years, and yes I understand people may not be into gas powered vehicles in the future but this is a historical piece.

Nothing against your grand am spy but a 12 second 4 cyl not that cool, you could get more out of a larger motor. I will say it is a cool grand am but now the grand am is no longer a 12 second car, and an evo seriously not that cool at all, yeah theyre fast but whatever thats not cool, you semm to miss the whole point that dave loves his car whether it be a grand am or f-body or even an old gremlin if the owner loves the car then they love the car, no need to jump on him and say otherwise, it is obvious those were his opinions and well yeah his car now could probably take down a c5.

whatever I am sad to see that some people haven' learned not to bash after a whole bit of drama was caused between a certain company (alpha echo delta), and a certain ga owner the ga owner still can't shut his mouth and let people express their opinion about their car on an automotive forum which is mainly yes grand ams but also we accept other cars as well, some people have said their civics are awesome but its a civic its a hamster wheel powered car.

So why are you talkin' 'ish about civics than? And what do you mean the ga isn't a 12 second ga anymore? If I wanted I could do it again, I could even do 11 seconds, if I wanted to. I have other asirations at the moment.

I know Dave love's his car, it's obvious.

Myself, I'm a guy full of friction, and like debating and arguing.

And the unmentionable company. They're a joke.

Civics are hamster wheel powered cars. Then explain the fact that at every import event you see them snapping off the majority of the FWD crowd? Some hamster power, gimme some of that.

Ummm correct me if im wrong which im not, but the record for fastest FWD drag car right now was by a female driver in a cobalt??? look at the worj you have to do to get a civic up in power, I was talking to a civic guy out here who hapened to have a built b16 NA and all he could do in the 1/8th was 9 secs flat, and in the quarter he could only get 14.2 secs. yeah thats ok and pretty quick for a civic but the amount of stuff into the motor and money, if I spent the same money I could have my GA going faster than that with stock internals and still have a decent daily driver that gets better gas mileage than his civic was getting. how is it mine and daves buddy with his GN is faster than a roughly 1000hp civic??

You build an all motor street grand am and go to a BOTI event. Find out how hard it would be to compete. I'm slower than the all motor Honda guys at the BOTI events. My car doesn't even make it into the power adder FWD class. I'm getting humped by full interior civics at the events. Then again I go for fun, and to have people go >!>!>!>!))?????????

Your comment about a FWD car vs. a RWD is absolutely rediculous to boot. Apples to Oranges comment.

The work to get a Civic up in power is the same as the work to get a grand am or any car up in power. Especially considering they both came N/A from the factory. If you're looking to make some big power you're building the motor, slapping a fatty turbo, getting it tuned right and slapping on some slicks.

Anybody can say a Civic is a piece of shit to mod, anybody can say a grand am is a piece of shit to mod. I'm more inclined to say a grand am is more of a piece of shit to mod to go fast in, but I like the car and that is my malfunction.

hahaha your malfnction?? thats probably the most comedic way i have heard that put.

I wasn't comparing FWD to RWD i was stating a simple fact of why spend alll that time and money when you can buy something and spend less to go wayyy faster. Yes the grand am really doesn't seem to be able to compete but then again where is our aftermarket?? not really anywhere to be found, we are a little hevier and if i built just the top end up on my 3400 I would have a mid-high 13 second or a low 14 second grand am which would compete with a b16 all motor civic.

Also what motor they running, see if we had a better choice of motors to put in a grand am then yeah we could beat them, but GM didn't make a whole slew of motors that are readily avaiable to slap into a grand ma. You could try a 3900 from the g6 and see how that fairs, maybe then get the 4t65hd tranny and get custom made shafts for the width of the grand am,get some PnP work done on your new 3900 tune and play you would probably have a real quick NA GA.

Well anyways i really don't see how FWD comparing to RWD is apples to oranges when teh main goal is going fast, FWD applications are doing well but it is just not a conducive setup for the goal of going fast. Soo it is well within bounds to compare a GN to a civic when the goal both people are trying to get at is a faster E.T. the guy in the GN will make it way easier than the civic, all the while the guy in the civic is taking forever to get the parts, hehehe as quoted from fast and the furious, From japan (not necessarily true but I always wanted to say it), that would support it being a 9 second car, not to mention our buddies 9 sec GN is a streetable car, barely but it is streetable.

Your continuing comparison between a GN and a Civic is laughable.

If you're going to be comparing, why don't you use something more on the equivalent end of the spectrum such as a Supra and a GN.

Why do people choose FWD? Who cares. It's obvious that the traction limitations does kill FWD to an extent. To make a FWD car 9 seconds capable.

Yourself saying you can oh do this swap and taht to make the grand am compete is ludicrous. When you hit 11's all motor then start saying well I can use this and this. The guys going fast in Hondas are going away from the B-series honda more and more.

Aftermarket, doesn't mean shit. Any part needed can be made. Stop whining about that, you can get everything you need for a stout motor made for reasonable pricing or use the part interchanges that people have discovered for the 3.4. That's just a cop out.

Also what's this whining about the choice of engines in a grand am? That's just another cop out. How do you think Civic guys managed to squeeze in an H series motor or the new K series into their cars? Waiting for mother Honda to say, here's some mounts it goes in slappy slappy. Oh and here's a plug n play ECU, with the half shafts that you can use easily. Yeah, right, they had to figure that out on their own.

You want to shove in a motor into your car? Fabricate some mounts, figure out how you're going to tackle the wiring and PCM issues with an older chassis, contact the driveshaft shop for custom length shafts, and go have fun.

Educate yourself about Hondas before arguing that they're not capable. www.honda-tech.com

Whoa there mr. hot pants, i never said they weren't capable just laughable at why you would spend so much time and effort, I wasn't using the we don't have an aftermarket as a cop out but for those people who don't want to sit there and fiddle around then yeah it is kind of important, also umm the b series and h series motors swap into the cars rather easily, you don't have to get custom axles made, yes it does help but if you go to the JY and grab some LS axles or GSR axles you are pretty set.

I won't argue that there are hondas that are fast but like I said there is a lot that went into it, also everything that you would need to do that to a honda has been done for the longest time, and major companies have put a lot of test and development into it so that makes it a tad easier.

Im not whining at all you seem to really like to jump on that fact i am stating the obvious.

Even so The GN I speak of has taken down i believe a 900hp supra. IIRC, ohh well ya know what, heres what it comes down to, you love imports, I don't care for them too much yes there are some fast ones and thats respectable but i would not ever choose to get one just to make it go faster.

You're funny. Here's what it comes down to. I love cars period. I don't care for domestics too much, but yes there are some fast ones and that's respectable.

I don't hate domestics either. I just like seeing people talk up domestics and then getting snapped off.

Taking down a 900hp Supra doesn't tell me anything. A great deal of Supra guys just want the big dyno numbers and don't have a great setup for drag.

Why don't you guys shoot out a little challenge to the guys at Virtual Works here in Vegas and maybe they'll bring out one of their customer cars to mop up the GN?

Funny thing is. I love GNs, they're big their chunky and they can make a load of power.

But a Big power Super not meant for the drag strip as compared to a Big power Supra set up for drag, you tend to get very different outcomes.

Here's what happens when you have a street supra that has the right buildup for drag. Not just the bullshit peak power, but the whole important part underneath the peak, aka the rest of the power band.

OK see now this is where we find we differ Im not a huge fan of imports, yes there are some that I respect, so it appears as we have reached spot where we realize where each other is coming from, there are some respectable imports, rx7(though the rotary not too reliable) 240s with a with either a turboed ka or a sr20, supras, skylines, z cars.

I do understand that the right setup is needed that I can't/ won't argue kinda pointless for me to. anyways it comes down to this you don't care for domestics i don't care for imports but I won't purposely bash an import just because it is one, i say wow that is a big waste of money, mostly inside my head unless the guy is a real jerk then I tell that to their face.

See when I see a fast ass import or domestic or whateveritis... you won't see me saying it's a big waste of money. That's where you start sounding like a hater. If I look at a shit setup, yes I'll say it is a waste of time and/or money. If it works out yes I have no problem with reversing my original statement, as I would have been proven wrong and will admit it.

You're humping the domestic bandwagon. I don't hump either side of the fence.

*shakes head*

you're right i'm an import lover, I just happen to have a fast grand am :-\

you said you liked imports and I never said you were an import lover so I don't know where you are getting this from, so no head shaking needed.

Im not humping the domestic band wagon, I just wouldn't choose to use an import for drag racing, maybe road course cause their cars have a real good stance for it but thats it, I would only say something if the guy was a real jerk but then again thats me if you are a jerk then you need to be put in your place. I have a pretty combative attitude towards that, something I may need to work who knows.

You did say you don't care for domestics too much as I don't car for imports too much mostly its a styling thing, but shoot ask dave at our local car club meet I said I would buy the new skyline before I bought a new vette as I don't see GM justifying a 30k price hike in a car that they have done nothing to, to improve it.

yes, but im on a STOCK MOTOR, and with gears, a tune, and tires ill mop the floor with you.

oh, and my 13.55 is with 91 octane, not C16 like what you run, plus its with factory original tires, you race with drag radials. come May lets see what i get at LA invasion.

For the record I have NEVER raced on drag radials. NOT ONCE IN MY LIFE!

so what if you're on a stock motor you have what? over 3 liters of displacement on me. Mopping the floor with me would be you bustin 12.0's . See what happens in May, just don't break your diff.

well dave to be perfectly honest we have the means to contact any owners of GA's in socal well the ones who are actually interested in meeting other people who love their cars as much as we do, well minus peyman he has been having a few issues with his ga, but anyways noone seems to want to gather here in socal. I will be there. fo shizzle ma nizzle.

Definitely not street tires.

People keep on forgetting I roll on M&H full out drag slicks at the track. FWD tends to need all the help it can get traction wise.

ok...so youre just being a smart ass. you know what i meant...you werent running street tires. if i were on slicks id probably break my rear end, so ill stick with DRs.

adam...youve got a point. the grand am scene in so cal is dead. the few that are into it are already friends of ours i guess.
