i was looking at these and im confused on what some of these changes are. I dont race my car at the track so im not sure if i should get it or not. i noticed the rpms shift points were at like 5800-6000. i dont get my car up that high unless i get on it on the road or something. can someone tell me what these changes actually do? like the skip shifts and that?

Speed limiter removed
3-1 and 4-2 skip shifts
Transmission line pressure increased
Shift points moved (5800-6000rpms)
Fan turn on points altered as follows:
186 degree F Turn On
Fuel/spark adjustments as follows:
Enrichens fuel delivery for critical problem areas
Provides a consistent power gain across the entire power band
Reduces spark retard (knock retard)
Dynamometer testing has shown up to an 6 to 10 HP gain in 60 degree temperatures on a development vehicle using 93 octane fuel.

the car will shift at the normal shift points unless you go wot, then that is when it will shift at 5800-6000 rpm

the skip shifts are just what the names imply, for example, instead of shifting from 3 to 2 to 1 at wot to get to first gear it will shift from 3 to 1 and make for a faster downshift into first

ok, what about the fuel system? do you loose gas mileage?

when your car runs "rich" means it is getting more fuel, Sso yourfuel consumption will be slightly more decreasing your MPG. so in short your will get a little bit less mileage but it shouldnt be a huge decrease

Correct, but keep in mind that fuel enrichment only occurs at WOT. Under cruise and idle throttle positions, it will still be in closed loop and run stoichiometric, thanks to the O2 sensor. :)

I have my engine tuned to run very rich at WOT... it does not affect my cruising fuel economy though.

You should consider MP RACING (one of our supporters :))

What other modifications do you have? The pcm really compliments modifications really well. If you race a lot illegally or legally, it helps, but if not, then I wouldnt worry about it yet.

im actually considering a pcm... but after i get headers (to "complete" my performance side of modification and move on). if it werent for the 93 octane i would be all over this (just a poor college kid that likes to go fast as cheaply as possible)

If you cant afford to put the extra $2.30 in your car every fill up then whats the need for headers if you can fully utilize them??? Just dont buy that bottle of coke and a snack every fill up and you will have that money easy.

Also I actually got a slight improvement in MPG as long as I could keep my foot out of the gas. I actually got 32.4 MPG on one road trip where I went 72-74 without stopping once through out the whole tank.

If anything you should get it for the skip shifts. Its awesome to not have to wait for the car to get out of its own way when you floor it.

... I had mine tuned for regular :)

Yea I agree with bballr, its only a couple bucks a tank. For real, if you can't afford that, you shouldnt be modifying your car. I get 40-50 miles per tank of gas more than I did stock. I did almost all my mods at once so I cant pinpoint exactly what did it.

its not the couple bucks a tank that im concerned about really, its the fact that the gas stations around the college sell 91 octane and the 93 back home is close to hitting $4/gal. on a college kid salary that is forced to eat what the school passes off for food everyday, then i would get it no problem.

one of the reasons why i dont get the headers now is for the same reason, the last thing i got for my car was the exhaust and that was close to a year ago... other than that it has been maintenence

so is there a certain fuel type you have to use? I go to Shell and i get regular so im not sure what octane gas that is. i've never looked

Regular is 87, Midgrade is 89, and Premium is usually 91/93 around our area. QT switched to 91 Premium, Mobiles usually have 93 though.

You can have it tuned to run on 87.

Exactly. I just dont see the point of spending over $1k on the exhaust on your car just to run it at less the optimum.

right now, i can't even afford to put gas in the tank until i get a better paying job... all my money is going to rent/bills and a puppy

Yea then just wait. Its a great mod for sure if you want that extra oomph. It got me .2 and 1.5 MPH in the 1/8 and the runs with the PCM were on a very very shitty day compared to the other run.
