Ok... with the whol fold-down issue: the seats probably do NOT fold down. My seats also look like they fold down from inside the trunk, but they really don't. Unless you can actually see little handles to fold them down with, I don't think they do. I believe the handles/strings are in the trunk on 96es with fold-downs but I could be wrong about this.

I just replaced my rear speakers today in my two door '94. I'm not sure if the '94 is exactly the same as a '96, but I'm pretty sure it's very similar. I know the two door and four door models are slightly different. I have fold down seats, but it's not the whole seat that folds down, just two sections so it still had to be fully removed.
To remove the seat there was a bolt holding the bottom of the seat on each side at your feet. There was a small opening in the carpet right where it meets the seat and you can see and remove each bolt. The bottom of the seat can now be removed easily.
The back of the seat is attached with two Torx-50 bolts. I went out and bought a T-50 bit for my socket wrench and couldn't get the damn things to budge. I ended up bringing my car to a nearby shop and the guy there used my T-50 bit attached to an impact wrench to easily remove them so I gave him 10 bucks for his help. The back of the seat needs to be lifted up and out to be removed.
The rest of the removal included removing the upper, lower and side trim and finally removing the rear deck panel which can be pulled out toward the front of the car. The instructions I was told for removing the rear deck included removing retaining clips for the rear deck, but mine either didn't have any or they were broken off already.
Hope this helps and good luck!

I had the same exact experience, you CANNOT get those damn torx bolts off, I ruined my brand new bit trying. If you're going to try I would suggest using a large breaker bar, and maybe a sledge hammer LOL

Your t-50 bit prolly got messed up because you needed to use a T-45

The bit and bolt are both fine, my seats use T-50 bolts. The 96 could be different and use a T-45.
