ok most likley i need a new tranny....when i turn on my car it just wont move when i put it in D or R or any of them....when i press on the gas..the rpm will go to like 3-4-5 and it will go really slow and it will slowly starting going fast and it will redline...and by that time the tranny kicks in and starts working okay....it does sound cool though....anyways this only happens the first min or two when i turn on my car...if i let me car warm up it wont do it...anyways i got quoted $1700 and $1200 at two different shops to install and for the labor....one of them said labor is like 400-500 cause it takes 4 days to complete...:???: anyways i found a guy that told me he will install it for 150, and i found someone to sell me a tranny for my 3.1 for 300....so i guess all together im looking at around 500 bucks total....what do u guys think?

Hmm... sucks that your tranny is out. But $500 would be a damn good deal. I'd be careful with the guy that says he can do it for $150 though. I'm pretty sure it's quite a labor-intensive job... you better make sure he knows what he's doin before you hand it off to him...

Murph is right, be wary about a $150.00 install. I know this is an obvious question, and I don't want to insult you, but you did check the fluid level?
I know you can buy a rebuilt unit for about 700.00 exhange with a years warrenty (Company's name is Phoenix Hard Parts). And around here it is about $400.00 to get it installed.

I simply would not go for the $150 install. Not unless you know the guy personally. But even then, that just adds more complications to the whole thing.

it just kills me to spend 1K+ on my car especially since its not like a body kit or something....it makes think about selling my car...it only has 49K on it...how is it possible that it already needs a new tranny.....

Did you check the fluid level like someone else mentioned?

You check your fluids with the dipstick when your car is running.

The transmission dipstick is red in color and loacted toward the back of the engine and the firewall. This is also where you pour transmission fluid into the transmission. The fluid is called Dexxron III. You can use this or a transmission fluid that is compatible with the Dexxron III specification. Unless the bottle says it is compatible don't use it.
Normally you should drive the car for about 15 miles to get the fluid warmed up. In this case that is probably not advisable. Instead, pull the dipstick and see if any fluid is present. If it isn't, start the engine and add a little (about a pint) at a time. Run the transmission through it's gears from P (Park) to 2 (2nd Gear), pausing about 10 seconds in each gear setting. Return the shifter back to P (park) and let the engine idle for about 5 minutes. Pull the dipstick and see if fluid is present on it. Remember there will probably be fluid on the sides of the dipstick, What you are looking for is fluid on the bottom of the dipstick. Repeat this until you do see some fluid on the bottom of the dipstick. Stop adding fluid before it reaches the cross hatched area of the dipstick. The cross hatched area indicate normal fluid level when the fluid is WARM and after the car has been driven the normal 15 miles prior to the check. If you fill it to the cross hatched area at this point (before the fluid is properly warmed up) it is possible to over fill the tranny.
Once you see the fluid on the bottom of the dipstick, the fluid level will still be a little low but, it should be safe to drive.
Now drive the car for about 15 miles to get the fluid to the proper temperature. (As the fluid warms up, it will thin out and your level will rise).
Park the car on a level surface and repeat the fluid level checks in this manner.
1. With the engine running, Shift through all of the gears pausing about 6 seconds in each gear, then return the shift to the Park postition.
2. Allow the engine to idle for about 5 to 6 minutes then pull the dipstick out and wipe it off with a clean cloth.
3. Put the dipstick back in and pull it out.
If the fluid is below the cross hatched area of the dipstick it is low.
Add fluid a little at a time (about a pint) and repeat steps 1 through 3 again.
Repeat this procedure until the fluid level is at the top of the cross hatched area of the dipstick.
I hope this helps.

Adding to the post above. The fluid is supposed to be red. I didn't know this and my car was driving sluggish. Not nearly as bad a yours. My tranny fluid was the consistancy of oil and dark brown. $76 to have it flushed and get a new filter.

Cmnky16 is right. Your fluid should be a nice red color. If it isn't, It should be power flushed and a new filter should be installed.
Power flushing assures that the old fluid in the torque converter is flushed out and replaced with new fluid. A "drain and fill" fluid change won't do it.

Yeah, it's definitely time for a flush if it's not pretty red anymore :D

First figure out why one of your wheels is pushed in further than the others! All that stuff is connected. I wouldn't be suprised if that had something to do with your transmission problems!

Ummm, dude, wheel connects to axle connects to transmission. It's pretty simple. If the wheel is shoved in, so is the axle, which is displacing something in the transmission.

Not necessarily a miracle. There's no telling what internal part of the tranny was stressed trying to hold the axle in place. Just pray it didn't BREAK the tranny, driving around with the wheel like that.
